EPB : Not releasing

Firstly I know there are a million threads on this but I've got a mechanic coming to looking at my car in an hour an so wanted to get the best advice immediately without having to read thru threads and threads (I'm at work too so it wouldn’t look good).

I've got the dreaded EPB brake fault, the dash reads

PARK BRAKE FAULT
AUTO RELEASE NOT FUNCTIONAL

and the car won't budge!

Now having chatted to the mechanic on the phone he says that pulling the emergency cable might mean fitting a new park brake motor.

Can anyone tell me whats the best thing to do...its an Manual 07 Disco3.

Help Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

If the guy is saying that then he does not know how the system works.. you need to get the epb off and then get it adjusted to the correct procedure and then see if it works ok if not you will need someone with a FM or AL to unjam it and reset it.

The emergency EPB release cable is not an EPB self destruct cable!
It allows you to manually release the EPB if it sticks on, follow Flacks advice Thumbs Up

OK, he's fitted a new park brake switch and now its releasing and going on, however if I try and drive off with the park brake on its still not releasing automatically and showing the 'PARK BRAKE FAULT AUTO RELEASE NOT FUNCTIONAL'.

He did have a SNAP-On computer that he plugged in and did an unjam first too.

Is there a reset procedure to get the auto release working again?

From your signature you have a manual car and unless it was set to auto release by the previous owner then it will not auto release.
Manuals apply the epb when you take the key out and you then have to release the epb yourself unless like I have said above it has been set to auto release in the CCF .

Yes could be, this fault has been related before to the epb but its more on the clutch side but tied in with the clutch pedal position transmitter.

And its xy not xyz Thumbs Up

Update: After noticing that the reverse lights were not coming on and 1st and Reverse not showing on the gear display (and the others displaying after a while). It convinced me that an XY reset was in order and so I took the car out before and did it....and it worked (2nd time round). I reckon we slipped the clutch trying to get the damp thing to move with the park brake stuck on.

Hardest thing was finding a long straight quiet road where I live!.

Thanks to everyone that contributed.. don't know where I and loadsa others would be without this forum!!

Very Happy Very Happy

Given the "fragility" of the EPB, I would not (over)use the auto off driveaway mode. The service manager of my local LR dealer professes he never uses the EPB at all - he just leaves the car in Park (auto trans obviously).

I just spent about $800 getting mine replaced (salvage part and indie labour) and I'm staying well clear of the damn thing....

I use my EPG regularly - at least twice a week to keep it in shape.

Other than that, it gets parked on the level in 'P'. Needless to say it gives me no issues whatsoever!

If you do the xy reset in low range, the road doesn't need to be too long to get up to 6th....
