Dead Disco 3.. no electrics, nothing.. help needed.... |
|
Afternoon all..
I blanked and removed the EGR on Saturday following the guide - nice and straight forward (being carefuly not to lift the Y housing up to far).. re-fitted all ok.. tested car round block and it was fine.
Misses went shopping yesterday and got stuck in Sainsbury car park when leaving. Car opened, but then nothing.. no lights on dash.. no power to open/lock doors from fob. I had to meet her.. brought my electrical tester and try to check voltage across battery.. few sparks later car came to life.. all lights and started. So I decided to blast it down the motorway got back home and fine.
Today misses has used it to do kids run.. go gym etc.. and now doing afternoon school run it's dead again (I'm at work).. so she is having to walk (20min) and it's raining - so im already in the bad books.
About 5-6 months had the alternator changed and a new battery fitted as the car wasn't charging.
I don't get what it could be? Any idea's? Is it some sort of short somewhere? Have I not plugged in a clip somewhere properly? I'm not getting any lights on the dash? 2005 HSE TDV6

I will check but I didn't disconnect the battery when I blanked of the valves..
When I did get home and checked the voltage across the battery with car running it was showing approx 14v at idling..
Wonder if the car is able to recognise the fob as doesnt it charge it..? 2005 HSE TDV6

therein lies the answer, you obviously have a bad connection in there somewhere. As Wiggs says, check the battery connections and earth points.

were the battery is ....just in front of the battery box on right is a earth point .
also follow the neg lead on the battery ..it bolts just behind the battery .
the battery terminals are the best place to start ..grab them and see if they move . They have silly connectors ...you need to loosen then bolts and knock them downwards to make them a tighter fit G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

It's unlikely to be anything to do with the EGR work - more that it is a fault with the battery.
Have you tried a replacement ?? Have you tried a 'jump start' ??
You could have a dead cell, this would still provide enough power to operate locks etc but would not be able to support the starter motor hence your sensation of a dead short ?? When your new alternator was fitted, was it checked for charging voltage / current - need to check that it's not cooking the battery.
Sorry if I'm being dumb

IIRC, the 05MY's had issues with the battery earth lead, and corrosion where it meets the body. Worth checking and cleaning up for peace of mind if noting else. My D3 Build Thread
