Folks
The other day, for the first time ever, I got a Transmission Failure' message!
This is something that I got used to on my RR P38 with rather boring regularity!
I was just about to start on a long trip back from France to catch the ferry!
I'm sure cars have brains or at least a bit of IQ;-) Let's keep him on his toes.
Needless to say nothing untoward happened on the 500 mile journey, and it hasn't shown itself again, well not yet.
As I said I got used to this message on the P38 and it meant nothing. Cured by undoing EVERY plug going to the gearbox, and giving them a squirt with contact cleaner.
I put the Faultmate on the car just now and it does have a logged fault: PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT - P0850
General failure information - No subtype information (Historic)
So my question, should I think about getting a spare switch and if so where is it, or just forget it?
Can I clean this one or at least the plugs and sockets around it?
As usual all advice very welcome.
Thanks
Ian

Thanks Mike.
That was the answer I was hoping for!
The message flashed up as I went into D.
It was first thing in the morning (8.0ºC) after just starting the car, the battery is good but I had a fridge box running when I started the engine, so it 'could' have been a low voltage glitch. It didn't happen again even though the car was started after lunch having had the fridge box running all that time.
As you say, time will tell.
Cheers
