2006 HSE with rear Air Con - never been off road. Approaching end of Warranty with Warranty Direct. Air Conditioning no longer cooling. Thought of a recharge using tyre fitting outlet but after reading some comments in forum I called in an Independent Air Con Specialist. (like hen's teeth in Fife area)
Pressure test (very slow drop off) and utilisation of mechanical/electrical "sniffer" identified possible leakage from condensor area at rear of Disco (specialists description).
Does anyone know if this could/would be covered by Warranty Direct or would a finger be pointed at corrosion due to age of Disco? Specialist unwilling to take on due to "complexities of Disco".
If this cannot be covered by Warranty - any ideas of repair/ replacement costs. All easily visible pipework appears good.
Being non-tech I suggested a re-charge may lubricate/seal "O" seals - not recommended by Specialist.

I don't know the specifics of your warranty but read the small print and if it isn't classified as a "maintenance item" then I'd go ahead and file a claim. They would probably send an assessor out but unless there is actual visible corrosion I'm not sure how they could swing that - you said all visible pipework looks good. I seem to recall some of the wiser wizards stating that there is a potential problem with the seals but that LR don't supply just the seals, it’s a new run of pipework and/or other parts.
Here in Texas, A/C gets daily use - I've heard anecdotal evidence that leaving the A/C off for extended periods can have a bad effect on the seals....
YMMV

If I continue driving with this depleted system, what damage can be done to compresssor and rest of system? Does the belt, which drives the compressor, drive any other auxiliary systems, e.g. the alternator or any other critical system/function? If this is the case; if the compressor fails due to lack of lubrication can it affect all/any systems driven by this belt and cause any catastrophic damage or "tow to repairer/home" situation?
