Disco 3 shockers, How to fit?

Hi,

I have a 05 reg disco 3, it has air suspension.

I have got new bilstein shockers for it, does anyone know if there any trick to disconnect the top strut of the original shockers, as i seem to be twisting the bush.

Thanks

I can't help with the disconnect problem you're having ( Crying or Very sad ) but I'm interested to know why you're changing to Bilsteins and, after you've fitted them, how they perform.

I'm thinking of giving my suspension an overhaul and looking at options.

Hope everything goes well.

I assume you've already taken the whole air supension unit off the car?

And therein lays the problem......

You need to undo three nuts on the top and the air suspension pipe collet.
Then when off, you will see the top nut you need to undo (keep the spacers and washers in order)

Then there is a plastic pin at the bottom of the larger shroud which needs to be removed and then the top shroud can be lifted upwards and off.....

When I renewed all my air suspension units, I just carefully undid the air pipe and let the air out. When it was all refitted the car just pumped itself back up.

Detailed rebuild instructions. You'd think bilstein could spring for a PDF of their own.

I am anxious to find out. They are on order, and due in by the end of April. We'll have to compare them at that time.

Any latest experience / feedback you can share on the Konis, tlt? I tow a heavy trailer on most off-road trips and my D3 has approx 135k on. Rear dampers (as probably the rest of the vehicle) work quite hard and the rear now feels quite bouncy, even when not towing. Thus lloking for longish term experience of Koni (or Bilstein) dampers in a D3.
Thanks!
Danie
