loss of all power everything dead

hi broke down today monday car driving down motorway when all the dash lit up like a chrismas tree then everything went dead freewheeled to layby awaiting recovery eac turned up and told me that my alternater had gone i had no warning of this and if it is the alternater why do i get no lights on the dash when turning the ignition on surely the battery will still have some charge in it

What warning would you have liked for the failure of a 7year old component? It sounds like a sudden failure if you haven't had any other errors indicating low voltage so seems like one of those things Confused

Sounds like your alternator stopped working a while ago and you have used up the power in it to the point where everything shuts down.

You will probably notice how much quieter the new alternator is.
 A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Loss of all power

Yea replaced alternator tonight and so far all is well and yes the disco does sound a lot quieter with the new alto fitted thanks for your replies much appreciated

Be aware that in dying, an alternator can cause the demise of the battery. Be worth keeping an eye on voltage levels in case you need a new one.

Just had exactly same problem with mine. There was mention of a dead short above, if i have my alternator replaced and there is an existing short somewhere in my wiring how can this ne found ?? Any ideas welcomed!!
 If idiots could fly this place would be an airport.

Anyone want to buy a SII 88" in kit form....
