Sat nav discs

Hi all
I want to buy a 2011/12 sat nav disc for my 2005 D3 but wanted to know what the main differences would be apart from new roads before anyone has me on that one! i mean any new gizmos or tweaks to make the expereince a litle more bearable?
Thanks
Thumbs Up

There is no major software difference as such. Maybe they have some better routing info, but mostly it is just updated maps/roads and POI's.

I bought one for my D3, and am now upgrading to a D4 in September. If you don't mind waiting I can put back my 2008 maps into the car and sell you my 2011 map. Assuming you are looking for the Western Europe map?

Good to know! Smile

I was pretty sure there wasn't any difference in the software on the 2010 and 2011 disk. Mainly as the screen came up with a warning and map almost the second I turned the car on. My guess was that there wasn't enough time to update the software.

Previously when I have popped in a new disc it took a few minutes to open. Which I assume is because of the software update.

Sounds like a test for when I get home to me! Smile

Actually hang on...I did do the test already. The first disk I had was a 2007 disk. I got an upgrade the 2010 Full European Disc. Then I purchased the 2011 Western Europe disc from the lovely TLO. A few months later I needed to use the older, but larger disc to cover a country that was not in the Western Europe disc. I popped it in, and it worked perfectly. When I came back I popped the newer one in again.

What makes you think they don't allow downgrades?

The map will work its the firmware that does not, its so you don't overwrite a newer version I guess..

Sorry for being silly, but I don't fully understand.

If I put the new one in and it upgrades the software. Then I put the old map in. I am then running the new software with older maps. Outside of that, i won't lose any other functionality...right?

If I am correct, then they are "technically" backwards compatible.

Or have I misunderstood?

When you put a new disc in the drive with a new version of map it will first update the firmware on the Satnav unit then it will load the new map. When you install an older map disc it will load the map but will do nothing else the upgrading for the firmware will be disabled, in other words you can't over write a newer firmware with an old one..
