OEM Retrofit SAT Nav available from China

Hi Guys,

I have found online a bunch of places in china selling OEM Sat Navs for the Disco 3. Heres an example of one of them,

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/25377114...ery_3.html

I've made contact and it appears they've created a unit that runs Windows CE5 ( a PDA i'm guessing)

They have told me it doesn't come with maps and I wouild have to find maps that support a MIPSII processor.

They also said that Sygic & IGO can supply the maps (software)

I'm basically putting it out there incase anyone is interested, but would like to know if anyone has gone down this path and had any success with it?

Cheers

Sy

I recieved the specs of it from them via email, and the brains are included. Im not sure if it's all-in-one like a PDA, or a screen and a box.

It's on a windows mobile platform,

AMD 600mhz CPU,
64m ram
SD/USB
2g storage

With those stats, im leaning to think it's all in one as it sounds like whats found in a common PDA,

since posting, I found the map software for around 60 Euro's form www.Sygc.com

Do you recall what kind of price they were going for on eBay?

I contacted my local Land Rover dealer here in Aus, and found out as a spare part, the Screen was $5500 AUD and the GPS unit was $6000AUD. $11,500 vs a $300 Tom Tom

It's a replica screen unit, effectively a PDA but designed to fit in the hole on non-screen equipped D3s.

Yep - just a WinCE-based PDA type thingy, but stuck in a (also probably fake) screen surround.

I must admit though....it is a pretty damn good idea for those without sat nav.

It could also be loaded up with proper cartography and OziExplorer, CompeGPS or whatever other off-road navegation tools tickle your fancy.

There is no mention of a price, it says sat nav is ready to go but apparently not. Advantage though of course is you could pick your own.

Needs to be sub £400 IMO

Did anyone end up getting one of these chinese units?

Thinking of getting one and fitting myself.. any tips would be appreciated..

Difficulty to fit?
Compatibility with a 2008 D3 SE?
Map software easy to install?
Any mutilation of the dash required? Shocked
Recomended map software for Australia?

Thanks

These have been on Ebay for around a year or so, they ship from Hong Kong and have a separate DVD player, but not cheap.
