General Grabber AT 17" - 265 or 235

Apologies for yet another GG AT post!

I'm confused - I have seen posts on here suggesting the GGAT is fine in 265 size on a 17" rim, but why would people opt for that rather than the 235 profile?

Thanks Thumbs Up

The General AT is not made in 235/70x17 so most go for the 265/65x17 General AT which is a 112 load rating.

Some like big and butch....if it floats your boat, your choice.

General make the HTS in 235/70x17 but has less grip than the AT.

Some even go for the 265/70X17, it fit's but will rub off road, this is still available in the AT2 tread pattern and very strong with a 121 load rating.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Andy, that's very useful. I already have the HTS in a 235 on the car but I'm after something which will give a bit more grip and maybe allow so gentle offroad work.

Apologies for posting a link from a competitor, but would the AT in a 235 65 17 work? As per here: http://www.4x4tyres.co.uk/235-65-17/235-65...p-325.html

Or is the load rating not up to scratch?

Thanks again Thumbs Up

Geoff is 100% right. Thumbs Up

On 17" rims we find the 265/65x17 to most popular fitment.

I have 265/70/17 AT 2 and they are great. +5% and I have lifted the suspension with the britpart EAS adjuster tool. The spare doesn't fit in the hole but never mind. See my gallery pics.

The GG At2 is available both as a 245/70/17 with 110S and 255/70/17 with 112S rating.

I currently have 235/70/17 Cont MS tyres with 108H.

Question is

1. what is the minimum suggested tyre load rating for a Discovery 3?

2. Will an AT2 255/70/17 fit without rubbing inside the arch? Its narrower than a 265 but deeper than a 65.

Thanks

Apologies for throwing one more question in.

1. I am buying these mainly for snow 60% and dirt/mud track (40%) use. Would a wider tyre be an advantage or disadvantage on snow and/or dirt/mud road?
