Using of expedition roof rack
Hi folks
I am planning to use my expedition roof rack for the first time on a long distance trip to France and would like to load it with the suitcases and bags. Therefore I would like to get some advices:
It shows that the maximum weight rate for the hole rack is about 54kg. That seems a little low for real use. That would mean that maximum 2 mid size suitcases packed with the stuff for vacation will bring it to the limit
Can I exceed this load limit? I will not going offroad with the loaded rack.
What is the best way to protect the suitcases, bags and other gear from the elements? Do you have any experiences with canvas covers? What material and thickness of the material is the best for the long distance highway motorway driving without annoying sound and destroying the cover by the wind.
How is the handling of the D3 with the loaded expedition rack?
What is your experience. Any advice is welcome.
Thank you in advance.

I put 3 very large suitcases on my G4 Expo rack with no issues ...covered with a cheap tarpaulin and lots of ratchet straps to stop it flapping about
Drove from UK to Bulgaria and back with no issues

Personally I feel the weight limit is to do with the roll over angle on side slopes when off road...... I would chuck what ever I needed to up there (with in reason) for road use, but would a bit more careful when driving off-road.
Strangley mine seems not to have a sticker on it with the weight limit

D3 roof can take a massive amount of weight - you can host a small party up there!
Sadly the nanny state, 4x4 roll-over limits and the elk test took over, hence the ridiculously low published limit. As it the way with daft limits most ignore it, but as a result nobody is really sure of a true limit. Where laws go bad I guess.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
