I am getting a bearing grinding noise (not massively noisy by any stretch but there nevertheless) in the offside front/middle, on a part throttle at about 30/35 mph especially noticeable with a slight lock or steering against camber.
I have had the bearing replaced last year because of droning noise which was cured by a new bearing. This is a different noise altogether.
Car has done 60000 miles, is a 2007, fully serviced and not used offroad.
Any ideas?

The other wheel bearing?. If not, possibly front diff starting to make noises.

Quite a common problem, bearings only seem to last around 100k miles, maybe a few more if you're lucky
Not very good really, but cheap and easy enough to change Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

drive down a straight road at 35mph, turn the steering slightly in opposite directions (around 5%) to the left, then straight for a short while, then to the right, the straight.
If the noise is heard when going left, its the RHS bearings, if its heard when going right, then its the LHS bearings.
Next if poss, get it up on 4 post ramp with the wheels in the air, put the vehicle in neutral and spin each wheel at a time listening closely for a very small clicking noise, that will be the wheel that needs the bearing changed but to be honest, best changing both front or rear at the same time.
If the rear, consider perhaps changing the whole hub not just the bearing as workshop time will soon rise beyond the cost of a whole hub assembly if they are charging by the hour
Also worth changing the stoneguards at the same time, these can get distorted/rusted/knocked and can cause a grinding noise when cornering and is a strip down to rectify (£30 each there abouts).

Having changed the bearings recently I am going to look at the shields, thanks for the pointer. With regards to the bearings, the first went at about 50000 miles near side front. Not good for a sturdy utility vehicle! The whole exercise was quite expensive as I thought at first my michelins had gone hard and had become very noisy but after an unecessary tyre the rumbling was still there so I visited the dealer who "couldn't be sure" but I decided to change both front bearings any way and that cured the noise, apart from the slight grinding noise which is really bugging me!
So a bit of investigation is called for.
