| Dash lighting - cigar lighter - help needed |

I have just replaced the second power socket next to the gear shift with the cigar lighter fitting. I don't smoke but a lighter seems more use than a second socket. I have connected the green illuminated ring but it doesn't light up like I expected.
Do I have to get something re-programmed to recognise the lighter and turn the green ring on? Is this part of the CANBus system?
Any advice much appreciated.

What colour wire did you connect up? 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
