What's this? Add 2 stroke oil to the fuel? I guess I'll try this, of course I normally use 91 octane gasoline (petrol) in my 4.4 V8.

Can't hurt, can it? and if a little is good, a lot must be better... Whistle

Seriously, I'm not doing this, but it is an interesting thread.

Well I've done over 2000 miles since adding 2 Stroke oil to every fill of diesel.

I can't yet give an accurate mpg assesment as the first 1000 miles inc. a lot more off-roading than I normally do and also rescuing stuck vehicles from a boggy field (Steve, the ATR's were more than capable Wink ). Also, I blanked the EGR's. Then I drove 1200 miles, to the Highlands and back, fully laden with a massive top box.

However today I was back to "business" driving a mix of motorway and A & B roads and my average was 32 mpg. This was from the display which in my case is about 1 mpg on the optimistic side. This was from scratch as I did a hard reset yesterday. So although it hasn't settled down yet, I'd say there is an mpg improvement for sure.

Perhaps it's a placebo affect, but it does seem to be smoother & quieter (before and after EGR blanking).

Overall I'm impressed and will continue to use 2 stroke oil.

I'll post an update on mpg when I next do a run up the M4 and M25, when in the past I would normally achieve a true 29mpg.

It is definitely smoother and quieter, use asda own brand stuff. I'm puzzled by everyone's trip computers being optimistic, sine running on 2 stroke & mapping mine has been under reading by 2-3 mpg brimmed today, added 300ml 2 stroke. Calculation mpg was 28.1 computer said 25.4. How much oil is everyone else adding to a full tank?

I've now done just over 1000 mile since starting to do this, and no difference at all in MPG, but definately quieter and smoother. Mines a Euro 4 engine.

my trip comp hasnt changd, still readin between 3 and 4mpg better than the car actually does

Why would you expect that to change?

It would be interesting to share objective opinions on its effect.

To be honest there are only a couple of things that you would notice. The vast majority of the benefits will never be seen until a strip down of the engine and/or EGR valves. Flack has recently done that and posted some pictures. Also the fuel pumps are kept lubricated, again something you will never see. Thumbs Up

Have you recalibrated your speedo since having new tyres fitted?- there is a facility in settings on the satnav to do this, when new tyres are fitted, this compensates for the different circumference of new tyres to worn ones.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I've now covered over 1k miles using Catrol Actevo as an additive.

Accurate brim to brim checks on MPG, after taking into account the 400-500ml of Catrol Actevo added to the fuel, show that my fuel consumption varies between 25.3 & 25.6 MPG - effectively no change.

Subjectively, but it may be a placebo affect, it does seem to be a little smoother & quieter.

Decision - I will continue to add Catrol Actevo.

Edited to delete crazy litre/gallon conversion & resultant calculation

Does that not make it more expensive than diesel? Question Whistle

Think your math is a bit off there....surely the 2SO is about 4 times the price?

At nearly £6:00 a litre it's nearly the same as a gallon ?

Since my post a couple of weeks ago when I said

My MPG has continued to improve, and now after another 1k miles I am getting between 27.2 & 27.6 MPG.

I ran a test over 200 miles this weekend, 160 miles Motorway & dual carriageway driving, mostly at 70 mph, but once very slow for three miles, and twice below 40 mph for a few miles, 40 miles single carriageway mostly single lane. Result 27.6 mpg; that's brim to brim refuelled at the same filling station.

I have also bettered 27 mpg over the last 1k miles.

So I withdraw the "little of no change" and substitute "mpg improved by c. 2 mpg". - very pleased.

I have detected absolutely no difference in the running of my engine or fuel consumption - I guess the benefits will be in the long term with injection pump wear or maybe some protection if the engine gets a gulp of water inn the fuel - might save the injection pump.

But nothing obvious in day to day running.
