Brake squeak, doing my head in!!! |
|
I've noticed recently the car has developed a squeak from one of the brakes. I can't quite tell exactly which one it is but it's on the offside, either front or rear. It commences sporadically whilst driving and I get one squeak per wheel revolution which is a bit annoying at speed.
As soon as I apply the slightest pressure to the brake pedal the squeaking stops immediately.
I'm thinking, one of the pads is rattling under normal driving conditions and slightly pressing the pedal tightens everything up and the squeak stops.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is there an anti rattle spring of some sort that may not be doing it's job properly or is this an early indication of more problems to come????? Mods:

Having the same issue on my nearside, i recon its the front but cannot be sure
I've had both front and rear wheels off and cleaned and regreased all the parts that need it as per the brake bible. but still it comes back.
had all pads and disc's replaced in jan.
So if anyone has any info please share so narpy and myself can have squeak free permagrins once again!!!

I too am thinking probably front and only possibly rear, but can't tell exactly.
Very slightly turning the steering wheel can also stop it too only to return again when straightening up.
Narpy junior definitely says it's rear as he sits in the back.
Not convinced the discs are warped as it comes and goes.
Bit of a puzzler but I still think it's a rattling pad. Mods:

I had the same squeak from the n/s rear and it was only fixed by a new set of pads. The pads were not retracting properly and the new pads were a modified design and all is now well.

Mater of crap pads and defo not a wrapped disk unless your steering wheel wobbles when brakes applied at higher speed

Hi.
Just had the same problem with my D3. All the way back from the Dordogne an annoying squeak from the o/s/r wheel.
Just the slightest pressure on the brake pedal and it stopped.
Met Flack the other day and mentioned it to him and he said it was probably a sticking pad.
On getting home I stripped and cleaned the rear brake, copper greased the pads, rebuilt, tested, squeak gone.
Thanks Flack 2006 SE. Java Black.

Yep. Had squeaking front pads in the past. Stripping and inspection found nothing wrong but did not cure it. Changing from oem pads to aftermarket pads cured it instantly. Annoyingly I have just upgraded to v8 front discs and without thinking picked up a set of pads as well from the main dealer. Squeaked from within two weeks of fitting so looks like the oem pads may have hard spots in them and either I put up or bin a new set af pads grrrr!
