cheers for that, looks interesting with the voltage-sensing relay to make wiring easier, I'll check it out. Also looks like they post things out quickly- I want something that will arrive soon since I'm taking the kids camping next weekend and last week I needed a jump after forgetting to turn off the centre console fridge (yet again)
On that point, I'd actually like to run the fridge and the kids' dvd players from a permanent (fused, obviously) supply, so they can be used without the key in the ignition- has anyone else got this setup?

A few of us do have a setup like you're describing. Most of us make a few additional fused sockets in the boot, running from the aux battery to the jack cover in the boot.
Mine runs via a solenoid rather than the VSR
Here's mine I made

very nice. I guess there's also a large fuse at the aux battery end to protect the cable in the event of a short?
do you run any fixed equipment in the car from the unstitched supply that was previously fed by the factory switched feed? My fridge plugs directly into the loom and the headrest dvds run off an internal connection I made to the rear seat cigar lighter socket, I guess I'd just cut and re-route these through the new fusebox.
I've currently got the passenger side loom trims off whilst drying out a sunroof drain leak, so being able to easily run cables along there would be a small silver lining to the leak problem- but I assume the cabling generally runs down the other side of the car? Is there a convenient firewall hole?

3X 175 amp breakers (1 either side of the solenoid and the third immediatly after the aux battery before it feeds the rear cubby.
All the standard wiring is unchanged. I got around the cubby fridge problem when no ignition by installing an Engel in the boot.

Again, very nice. I've got a crap halfords 12V coolbox thing that I would run from an aux socket, I've only just bought a tent and I'm yet to see if the kids take to camping, so it'll do for the time being. The cubby fridge is ok but I never use it now because I forget to switch it off literally every time. I even bought a boost start/inverter thing because I knew it would happen again. Actually that wasn't a bad setup, it came with a cigar lighter lead which charged it when the ignition was on, so I left it plugged in in the boot and when the key was out it back-fed the 12V so the dvd players worked.. I was always a bit dubious about how the car felt about that, mind!
what battery setup do you have under the bonnet, tayaste? Does the solenoid coil operate from the ignition feed?

The solenoid is activated automatically from a controller in the cabin and disengaged when ignition is off.
It also has a link button on the controller to manually link the batteries for jump starting if you happen to flatten your cranking battery ( It might come in useful if you leave the cubby fridge on )
This is the split charge system, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charge-Battery-Ch...B00ZCOME44
I binned the cable that came with it and replaced it with 35mm2 instead.
