Still a little confused.Just picked up a litre of Tesco's 2 stroke motorcycle oil £3.95. It's FB and says low ash. My car is a euro4 MY08 so i assume it has a DPF is this oil suitable as an additive or shall i use it in the lawn mower? Thanks

You shouldn't have a dpf unless something funny is going on (euroland import say).

If that's the red oil from Tesco's that's fine its a good price. I have changed to Castrol Actevo from Asda Direct, at £5 per litre bottle.

Ok thats good news then (i think).Thought i read a post that they were fitted on euro 4 engines but it must of been refering to euro exports. So i take it the 2 stroke oil i have is suitable as a fuel additive. By the way how do you tell if a vehicle has a DPF fitted? Can you see it?

Just double checked mine, the Tesco oil is Jaso FB and the Castrol is Jaso FC. You would be better using the Castrol, especially if yours has a DPF. Thumbs Up

I do believe all d3 and 4 are fitted with a dpf, some call it cat, but they all have a device to trap the particulates from the exhaust gas, as are most current diesels.

I would play it safe and go fc,

It even states in the manual to run the vehicle at high revs for 30 mins occasionally if most mileage done at low speed to clear the dpf. See page 152

The cat is fitted to all D3s, but the DPF is a completely different thing, it was only fitted to later models. Thumbs Up

Hi guys

simple formula:

Without DPF: JasoFB OR Jaso-FC

with DPF: Jaso-FC only. Do not use a fully synthetic 2sO on a vehicle with dpf!!

2sO conforming to JASO-FC has superior carbon removing properties and is also low ash.

In Europe, where 0 - 5ppm diesel is sold, a 1:200 ratio should be used. In countries where 50ppm (or higher) diesel is sold, 200ml per tank (D3 and D4) is sufficient.

Hope this helps

Hi bambi

there is a fundamental difference between a cat and a dpf. All moderrn LR's from about 1997 onwards have a cat, but only Euro4 and higher have a DPF Diesel Particle Filter).

The use of 2sO in Jaso-FC grade will double the intervals in between burn free cycles of the DPF, which is a rock solid confirmation, that an engine run on 2sO puts out less particles than an engine run on diesel only. Let alone the substantial benefits in increased lifespan of CRD components due to (now) sufficient lubricity of the diesel.

Hi Hgbosch, I have read many of your posts on the sa forum,

I am aware of he difference, but many on here keep pointing out that these land rovers don't have dpf's. I knew mine did but I was not aware that only euro 4 spec engines have the dpf fitted.

I have to say I am somewhat worried about sticking 2stroke oil in my tank.

I have put some in buti ended up putting semi synth jc spec oil in.

I couldn't get mineral jc locally. so went for the semi,

I will give it a couple of tanks to see if any benefits, if I find mineral jc I will buy it.

I read the other forum posting with relish, but as always there were two camps of which I could see merits from both sides.

I normally use a diesel additive to help lube the pump.
