Looking to start using this oil for the first time today.

Just to confirm. 2 stroke oil as used in bikes and lawn mowers.
Mineral oil not synthetic or part synthetic.
I will need a full tank on visiting the pumps today. How much oil to add?

I need to gets small bottle for the car so looking at going to halfords for a 1ltr bottle of 2 stroke garden engine oil.

Will this be ok?

Why not just add Liquid Paraffin, Syrup of Figs or Andrews' Liver Salts for all the good it'll do for your mpg ?

Quite surprise to read that all of you have been putting oil to your tanks Shocked
Actually I did when I was travelling through Ukraine and knew, that the fuel was worse considering quality (more dry I would say). But I thought in Europe the gas is good enough to not put it in Rolling Eyes
Well - maybe I should change the habits? 8)

Mineral two stroke oil as used in outboard motors and other two stroke engines etc.

I think its recommended for 200:1 mix so apparenelt for a full tank apparently that's about 350ml. I may start using oil in my diesel as of today, if I fill 3/4 tank I'm going to put in 250ml.

If you Google 'two stroke oil in diesel' you'll get loads of information.

I assume by referring to "gas" you mean petrol ("gasolene") ?

This thread refers to diesel powered Discoveries.

IanT599

The Discovery tank hold somewhat over 80 litres, so 200:1 gives you 400ml for a nearly empty tank. 350ml is fine, but you can't hurt things by overdosing slightly.

Any mineral 2 stroke oil complying with the JASO FC specification will be fine; Catrol Actevo is readily available from Tesco, Asda & more expensively Halfords.

You may find it easiest to bulk buy from Asda.

You are of course free, but not necessarily intelligent, to make fun of & ignore the benefits from adding 2 stoke mineral oil to diesel.

I cannot see any arguement against doing this, and remember what I have been told many times:-

Cough-cough..... lab test proves 2SO reduces engine wear in diesel engine. Lubricity improved. Cough-cough

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177728

I'm finding a lot of references to lab tests proving that 2SO slightly decreasing cetane, which slows the burn wave marginally. That would explain the reduced clatter some experience. I've an open mind on this one - so far I have found lab evidence to support some of the claims made (quieter, less wear) but no lab based evidence for other claims (mpg and cleaning your egrs). It may be out the, but then I haven't devoted hours to finding it.

Why do you assert that I’m making fun? Can you not differentiate between a light touch critique and making fun of something?
Despite your un-scientific 'trials ', there isn’t any proof that such additives do anything for your mpg other than add to the profits of the already bloated Oil Coys, .
As all those who are versed in the methods of Science and Technology, the essence of a Scientific experiment is that it is open to being dis-proved – yours are not.
Do please try to use the concept of intelligence where it is appropriate, in this context knowledge is probably the better word.

‘less than nothing’ is a negative ?? I see that you've corrected this.
Reference to your own ‘Hawthorne effect’ skewed data is not proof of anything, other than illustrating your profound mis-understanding of logical progression in quantitative data capture

Your methodology is faulty
Your arithmetic was a mess
