Also towed my tin tent after a couple of hundred miles with no issues. Would just say do not drive it hard take it steady and let the car do the work it was designed for Thumbs Up
Nearly got 4k on the clock now and the fuel economey has started to improve by a big amount.

Sure its been discussed before and consensus was that an initial thrashing (having warmed up first) was best for reliability and economy later on.

Have been driving mine fairly 'normally' since collecting, if not a touch granny-like, apart from the odd enthusiastic moment to upset a boy racer at the lights. Very Happy

875 miles on mine and fuel consumption is still shocking though Shocked Hopefully, in another few hundred miles I will see the consumption drop back a bit.

Still, at least all the predictable rattles are appearing now, so I can get those looked at in due course. Laughing

I towed my 2.2ton boat with only 1,200Klm's on the clock.
In my opinion, providing you don't over rev the engine, the towing is good for the running in process (words from my father-in-law who is a diesel engineer / mechanic).

The secret is not to rev the motor and give it time to cool down when you stop. In other words, let it idle for a while.

Cheers, Craig

Thanks all for your input and thanks drmcw for the thread. As for the fuel consumption still loved up with the car to let it shock me yet. So i will have to take it steady. Thanks

I'm hoping for something similar in improved fuel use. Only done 2K so far and average based on fill ups is 27mpg. I'm taking the tintent out for the first time next week so getting excited - should I use cruise when towing or will I get better consumption without it, does anyone know ?

Just come back from a 63mile journey, all stop/start and got 32.3mpg!! Very Happy

The 2011 D4 I exchanged last week, I'd have been lucky to have got 25mpg! So I am very pleased indeed! Very Happy

that must have been some hill you were driving down there Laughing

Current average in the D4 is 24mpg (calculated from fillups). My D3 gave me an average of 28mpg.

Best seen in the D4 is 36mpg - on the motorway at 65. Yawn

The best I've seen on my lieometer was 40 mpg on a long slow A road limited to 50mph by trucks - A49 if you know it. The following fillup calculated it at 29 mpg Big Cry

Also got a new D4, 400mile on the clock, avg a horrific 23mpg. My old D3 did a reliable 26mpg. I hope the D4 gets substantially better?

I've done 440 miles in my new D4 and it shows 31.3 mpg average at present. The miles have been on stop/start, short commute and about 100 on motorway.

I haven't done a check on fill up but it certainly is better than my 2011 D4. That never showed more than 28 even on a long motorway journey and it had done 16k when I exchanged.
