Disco4 or RRS

I am considering disco4 as my next car as my RRS is 3 years old in November and has been a big disappointment Crying or Very sad

Had 2 disco2 before changing for fl2's as I did not like the disco3 when launched and was always very happy with all of them - including the 3 fl1's I have had Embarassed

Question is has anyone here come from RRS to disco and if so was it the right move Thumbs Up

I am considering an evoque but think like the RRS probably overhyped too Evil or Very Mad

Thoughts please Bow down

This was my favourite Thumbs Up

In what way has the RRS been a big disappointment? I ask as it depends what the disappointments are with the RRS and what you'd be expecting from a D4.

Disappointments

1. Summer tyres on a 4x4 Thud
2. 3 months waiting for wiring to door missed on build Banging Head
3. Power loss on numerous occasions pulling onto roundabouts and crossing gaps in dual carriageways followed by rocket surge has the brown stuff hits the seat Shocked
4. Uneven tyre wear at 10k - a characteristic according to Lr Evil or Very Mad
5. Warning lights galore, followed by software updates then warning lights again Yawn
6. Poor ride quality compared to every other Lr I have had Crying or Very sad
7. Cost twice as much as a fl2, depreciates twice as fast and is actually putting me off the brand I have been very happy with for 12 years Big Cry

I have just sold a 5 year old fl1 and had more confidence in it Rolling Eyes

Have gone to D4 from RRS (old model) previously 2 D2's

Having had it 9 months now have found it to be both reliable and fun. More space and the occassional need for an extra seat have been very useful with the kids.

Comparing it to the RRS it has been a good upgrade, engine is a huge improvement, things like voice control actually work and have found the seating a lot more to my liking. The rrs always seemed to be adjusting it. Ride quality is softer and not as hard which does lead to a little more body roll than RRS. Fuel economy is around the same though (a little better) believe the 8 speed version is slightly better.

i had the no power issue but the corrulator switch was changed in first week and has been fine since, the only other prob has been the timed climate showing the low battery warning after use, but has been after short journeys and has never failed to start because of it.

both sets of tyres 20 and 19 inch have worn evenly, was surprised by how well the 20;s rode and make the car feel very well planted on the road though a slightly harder ride give you a much better sense of confidence.

All in all it does feel a good upgrade, though not as pretty a lot more practical and useable.

Me from D3 to MY12 RRS.
The MY12 hp and torque are the same. difference is in suspension with RRS having more sporty setup.
Obviously D4 has the space, and extra seats.
No issues with MY12 RRS in 6 months, very pleased.
Do miss the D3, she was great... no real issues in 5 years.

MY12 D4 or RRS are step on from previous. Infotainment and phone work first time, everytme! Power plentiful. Smooth!
Both brilliant vehicles, just take your pick whichever suits you best.

They're built by the same people on the same line with the same chassis and power train so shouldn't be any different in all the areas you are disappointed in but sounds like your RRS wasn't exactly a good'un?

Have had both and going from a D4 to RRS next. Main reason is that I don't need the 7 seats and extra practicality of the D4, fancy a change again and am lucky enough to be able to have either on the car scheme for the same price.

For me the RRS feels a bit more 'special', probably more to do with the badge but an RRS HSE Lux pack also has a few more toys and nicer seats than an HSE D4.

The tyres are specified to suit the vehicle and its (probable) intended use, the clue is in the name; sport. Most D4's probably don't see much off road use, I'd imagine RRS's even less so.

The 3.0d with 8 speed is way, way better than the 2.7d and about 10% more economical for me (plenty of people find it less so if you search the threads). I do have 'take off' lag and the D4 feels slightly worse for this? Both have had the rotary gear controller which I soon got used to but for some reason I'd prefer a shift stick in the RRS due to how it's positioned and falls to hand better.

For me I'm very happy with both but never needing 7 seats and the RRS being plenty big enough and practical I'm more likely to go for them more often in future ( my current D4 is forever 'on loan' to everybody else!!!!)

Not if you're likely to get the tyres dirty, and you would have to keep the RRS to tow your 'van. Rolling with laughter

Much of what you say about shared components is my main concern Sad

I too left Disco's because I no longer needed 7 seats but I do miss the practicality of a Disco especially in the boot area and winter living in a rural area when I have had to swap tyres Rolling Eyes

I have a 3.0 so power is not an issue - it actually dies without warning from time to time as if it is in limp mode then surges - always after slowing down at a junction or roundabout resulting in road rage around me and terror in the RRS Shocked

8. I also forgot to mention the knocking suspension that LR deny exists Evil or Very Mad

Totally agree! My comments about the X5 were more in jest, and frustration about the current problems we have with our Disco regading the lag at roundabouts!
I too only buy British--my wife has the disco and i have a 5.0L XKR!
The friends we go caravanning with every year in Spain have just bought a new 4.0 X5, and I must say that its a lovely car ,however.
Hasn't got the room of the disco, and I don't particularly like the image, but it is beautiful to drive!

I had LR assistance out this week following 2 close death experiences at weekend to look at problem with dying on roundabouts/junctions after software updates failed to sort it Sad

He changed a brake switch/component and said it is now cured so will see how it goes Thumbs Up

I wanted an XK to replace my FL1 but bought a mini instead (built at cowley so not fully BMW Whistle ) due to free road tax/fuel economy Thumbs Up

I am very interested the new smaller Jag F type coupe out in a few years though Bow down

The XKR is beautiful!
I had a 4.2 supercharged before, but the 5,0 is another world!
Problem is that its a convertible, so SWMBO is using it more than me at the moment!
