Soft Paint and Rust on Side Steps |
|
I washed my 6 month old D4 at the weekend. Two grumbles:-
1. As I've said before on here, the paint (Buckingham Blue) is very soft to my mind - there are a significant number of light scratches and one or two not so light. I appreciate that they are more visible on darl colours but considering the care I take generally and when washing, I'm very disappointed. I saw a post on here recently mentioning that a dealer had suggested that Buck Blue was dropped so quickly because of a bad paint batch. That wouldn't surprise me from what I've seen. If I could establish that to be true, I'd want to have words with LR about it.
2. The dealer fitted side steps had numerous spots of rust on the surface of the metal which I removed easily enough with elbow grease and metal polish. Have others experienced this ?

I may be wrong but it might have something to do with paint now being water based. We have a 2011 Mini which only needs a gnat to f**t as it flies by, and it marks.
Progress!

the side steps at my dealer on display are rusty. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

I agree that Buck Blue scratches VERY easily. I had mine for 4 months and also have a lot of small scratches, especially on the tailgate. Not sure if there is anything to do about it. None of my previous cars scratched so easy!

Don't recall rust, but the metal strip on the side of the steps on my D3 tarnished quickly.
Bit of bug & tar remover helped to clean them, followed by a healthy dose of wax to keep cleaner for longer.

Yep, the mounting brackets are rusting on my year old shiny side tubes as well.
