Switching Edit Mode did the trick even answered another of my questions too, just need to go and find some RRS's VINs now and see what they look like

I have purchased a set of all the required parts as i am concerned that the ECU i was using may have been faulty and giving us this constant FA switch error. I have given these to one of my chaps who now needs to make another wiring loom for it that can be connected to our bench jig. Unfortunately we closed last week for our Easter break and won't now re open until May 8th.

Hiya Ian
Of course i am here
I am constantly juggling the many things i have going on right now and trying to do my best by all of them, prioritising accordingly.
Rightly or wrongly a lot of my time is currently being taken up by Poppie.

Normal D3 Mod service will be resumed as soon as possible though

Hi Colin
Thanks for reply. Very cute pic
I guess I will leave my bits gathering dust for a few more months
The sensor will probably make a good paperweight
Best Regards Ian

Don't loose the bits Ian
Sorry for my digretion.
While my own hands are quite full, sometimes quite literally, this does not stop me delegating and the new parts have indeed now been loomed together by Christian and passed to Alex for testing to verify that the new Hardware set does not have this FA fault problem.
Unfortunaltely Alex has been a bit busy sorting out some problems in the latest MSV-2 update but this is pretty much done now and i will ask him to make sure he checks the new hardware out this week and will write back here with the results.
If the new set does not have this FA switch constant fault problem then this proves that the reason we cannot calibrate the old hardware set must be down to a faulty ECU. We can then get it replaced, calibrate it and get it all working PDQ.

Hi Colin,
It's been a year now, everything fitted up and waiting for that simple patch.
Is it going to happen? Or have you bigger fish to fry?

Hiya Chaps
I got into this project because it really should have been very simple and straight forward, Ie quick.
For the D3 it should require only the fitting of a switch panel with the Forward Alert switch, the ACC ECU, the switches on the steering wheel and of course the Radar sensor and on a D4 only the fitting of the ECU, wheel switches and radar sensor.
And then of course enabling in the CCF.
Utter childs play compared to what else have sucessfully retro fitted to my D3
The wiring between these items is not overly complex and the connections to the exiting vehicle even less so with just four connections being required that are actually avaliable on the OBDII socket.
As i pictured earlier on this thread, i made up a loom connecting these together which i retro fitted to the D3, and enabled the system in the CCF with positive looking results in so far as all the related menuing came up on the instrument pack etc.
However we kept getting a Forward alert switch fault code that despite our later fitting the genuine switch etc was still present. We also got the expected needs calibration fault code
We tried doing the calibration but failed
We supplied this setup, as is to someone else to try but were met with the same results.
I came to the conclusion that there was no fault with the Forward alert switch itself but one in the ECU itself that was not new and came to me from a source that supported this theory.
I purchased a brand new ECU and another switch bar, complete with the Forward alert switch / indicator LED from TLO and using another radar sensor wired these up the same as i had done before.
However we could not even communicate with the ECU diagnostically in this second set up and despite treble checking all connections, we still have no idea why this is.
We have got the first set back in with a view to swapping things out in the hope of getting a working set going without the Forward alert switch fault code problem, but by this time we have had to change our entire focus to the Nanocom.
So currently we do have bigger fish to fry, but that is only a temporary matter.
Some may know that i do now have a 2010 RRS which is technically identical to the D4 and i have already fitted the ACC steering wheel switches to this, purchased the Radar sensor mounting bracket and right now TLO is helping me get an ACC ECU as it is fundamentally different to the D3 one.
So while we have had some technical setbacks and i appreciate that this has dragged on for some time now and we do have other higher priorities, this is still something that i would expect to happen.

I've read the 7 pages of posts hoping that BBS Spy would have found/resolved the mystery by the end of the last post!
It felt like a Tarantino movie!
What a shame, but thanks for trying
