are there no fault codes being logged?

The genuine Low pressure pump is now over 400quid (went up about 6 months ago).

I have had the High pressure pump fail on mine (well the pressure control valve, but you cant just replace this as its part of the pump), and it was intermittant, and did put all the dash lights on, lowered suspension, etc. I think if the LP pump plays up, it either works or it doesnt.

Exchange HP pump was £325, plus rear belt kit (£80) plus labour.

Also - there are 2 version of the HP pump, Euro 3 and Euro 4, and they are quite different. so if it is this, make sure you get the correct one.

Apache - sorry to hear about your experiences, doesn't bode well for my own!

Al - the fault code being logged relates to fuel pressure, it being unclear whether the problem relates to the LP or HP fuel pump. Both are now being investigated with a view to hopefully eliminating one or the other - or tracking some other fault causing the problem.

On mine, it started out with fault code stored is P2290, which when I check this on Pete Bell's site it said: "Injector control pressure too low". Then it moved to fault code P0087, which translated as "fuel presure to low".

My Indie and I went for the Fuel Pressure valve as my Indie had seen similar systems on a Freely when the control valve played up (but on those the valve is separate). Since we replaced the HP pump, all has been fine.

Testing the LP pump revealed very reduced performance compared to another similar vehicle in the garage at the same time. Investigating the possible causes of that revealed a lot of junk and general muck in the bottom of the fuel tank which had fouled up the filter and probably affected the performance of the pump. Hopefully on the right path now to a fix.

Ive had all the same issues, replaced battery, break switch, fuel rail, fuel filter, wheel alignment and in the end hpfp on Tuesday. Issue seems to have gone away now. Fault codes were low fuel pressure. Issue would happen after approx 20 mins then just keep happening. I did notice a flat spot when accelerating before it went into limp home.

Good luck, there are so many posts on this issue

Nope, the garage tested the pressure on the lpfp and we're confident it was fine. They bench tested the hpfp for 20 minutes before it had an issue. I've had the issue a while but was getting gradually worse.

At this point I was insistent that if I'm spending all the cash on the hpfp they were sure it was faulty.

The guy in the garage suspected it from the start, but said it could be that or the rail sending bad messages. The rail was the cheaper part so we decided to change that first.

All the other things changed I done myself after reading threads on here.

I only found the garage as the local main LR dealer put me on to them cause they don't have a fault reader for a D3 anymore

Thought you had two years to claim any recalls

I have no idea
But If my hpfp was needing replacing and I was on the recall list I would definitely be contacting land rover to get them to pay for it

Just my thoughts on this.
I have the hpfp codes on mine several times. Pressure too high and sensor out of range.
I also have had the car go into limp mode several times along with the associated bongs.
After replacing the brake switch it worked fine for 300 miles. It then went into limp mode again and I immediately changed the switch again for a new one. The car broke down five times in the space of 40 miles. I got back to the camp site cleaned the switch up, removed the grease from the contact points and made sure it was installed properly on the tabs. It has since done 2.5k miles faultlessly.

Hello Lads,

My name is Barry, I am irishrovers brother. The problem in the end was the high pressure fuel pump. It took me almost 2 years to finally get to the bottom of this. The reason i never suspected the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) was because a few months earlier I had got the HPFP done under a Land Rover recall.

I am embarrassed to admit how much money i spent trying to get to the bottom of this problem but in the end the hpfp was the culprit.

Could anyone help me with my current problem....? Front left wheel has locked up on me 3 times. done the usual replaced the discs / pads / 2nd hand calipers / flexible brake fluid line.....

Anyone got any ideas.... tormented with the f :censored:ing thing...!!

Barry

I have had the same twice. Both times in France. Both times logged the hpfp out of range. I think I still have that code on now. Changed the brake switch made sure it was fully located and now runs fine. It's done 5k since with no problems. I wonder if the hpfp code is a red herring. Happened to somebody else on the forum as well.
