Got some 18 inch 5 spoke disco rims that I want some at off road tyres on.

What sizes do people suggest? And any brands other than Pirelli and gg ?

Continental Cross Contact AT (note AT) in standard 255 60 18. OE option for Defender Nowhere near as good on road as Pirelli ATR but you did ask!

If you like Marmite you will like ATR but if you don't you have General AT, best in my book and still the most popular seller. Thumbs Up

Think Conti is under estimated, maybe. Neutral

I was in no way implying that the Pirelli at gg are not good just wondered what else is out there!

And mainly what other options of size there is for a disco on 18s

England 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 Commercial Manual Stornoway GreyDiscovery 3

I went to see a cow earlier this week in a field on the top of a hill. Following the farmer in his Gator. He stopped at the gate and asked if I wanted to go into the field or unload my things into his golf buggy. I declined. I followed him in the D3 with AT's on and he was spinning at times, I wasn't! Got there no bother.

Laughing

Another vote for the General Grabber AT's!

The difference between the two don't come into things any more as the AT2 in most sizes has been dropped in favour of the AT, this is down to EU noise reg's.

Also the AT2 only went upto 255/60x18, only sizes available at present in AT2 is 225/75x16, 235/75x15, 235/85x16, 265/75x16 and we keep finding the 265/70x17 in a 115S available, these sizes are classed as commercial.

Did about 100 miles yesterday on mixed roads, on brand new 19" general grabber AT's and could not hear them.
if any thing the ride is now softer and smoother than my old set of Goodyear Wranglers

If you're after AT's go for the GG. I've had mine (255x60R18) for just over a year now having covered about 13000 miles and the wear is minimal. I've been off road a fair few times and they've never let me down, whether it be soggy muddy fields, slippery wet vegitated forest roads or playing about on stockpiles of crushed rock. I had scorpians prior to the GG AT and, for me, there is no significant noise difference and there is no real difference to MPG either.

If you're after mud terrain tyres try the Cooper Discoverer STT 275x65R18 or 275x70R18. I have no personal experience of them but they'd be my choice if I were to buy mud tyres. You may or may not need to buy lift rods (such as Johnson Rods or <EDIT>rods) and/or modify the inner arches/wings to accomodate the wider tyre - someone with more knowledge on the subject could clarify. Thumbs Up

For mud I use BFG KM2 in 245/70/17. No clearance issues and the spare fits under the car without airing down. Awesome Tyre off road.
