Correct way to do the check is to switch the car off as normal, come back (10 mins later) switch on the ignition (start button without break peddle pressed) and then do the oil check.

Ted. I used to check mine first thing which seemed ok until my first service a couple of weeks ago after which it read as overfilled. I think I posted chapter and verse earlier. 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT
