Very interesting topic Does the cat on a diesel engine have a limited lifespan as on a petrol engine? Will the engine ECU give a faultcode when the cat is blocked? What limits the life of the cat on a diesel?Traffic?Bad diesel? If no faultcode, how will you know it is finished?Big Country RR,NL Split Charge,FR Sump Guard,TP Monitor,BAS map

unlike the V8's, the diesels do not have sensors on the converter
I thought all post '06 models had sensors fitted - V8 and TDV6. I have an '07 model TDV6 and have been advised not to de-cat.
Is there a problem removing the silencer boxes? (that would be technical issues -not road-worthy)
I certainly saw the difference in performance with a clean, straight running pipe on my TD5.
My 08MY is de-catted, no issues at all, there aren't any sensors to wrorry about
I'd suggest either de-catting or removing the silencers - not both. I had a straight through performance pipe + the de-cat on for about a month, it sounded good outside (scared a few boy racers ) but inside the constant drone soon got unbearable so the standard pipe went back on with the de-catThe End

Are you not talking about blanked EGR's on '07 onwards cars
So it seems that there is nothing to tell you that the cat is blocked, apart from maybe a drop in performance Big Country RR,NL Split Charge,FR Sump Guard,TP Monitor,BAS map

Lots of people of have mentioned that there might be an MPG improvement with de-catting but has anyone actually seen an improvement? Or, was it the same or worse?1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone

Hi moo
I'm thinking of going for the same as you, I've already looked into the Allisport IC and Decat. Did you notice any MPG gains after the IC was fitted. They claim a minimum of 12% better fuel economy on their website?
'Tests have shown a minimum improvement in fuel economy of 12-15% even when combined to remaps or tuning units from other companies'

I would love to decat mine, however my car is in Spain and have a concern about the ITV test (Spanish MOT), my car is not yet old enough to require the ITV test, however I did enquire at a local test centre and was informed that the vehicle would fail if it was visually obvious that the CAT had been removed. So what I need is a CAT look alike straight through pipe.
Anyone else on here from Spain have the CAT removed ?
