Well I'm just coming up to 10,000 miles on the clock and something has gone wrong! I don't know what, but there is a vibration throughout the car, it's pulling left, it doesn't sound as smooth (there's a constant sandy/gravelly noise as you drive) and worst of all the mpg has plummeted from the usual 28/29 down to below 23.
It's off to the dealer for me!
Anyone else had a similar problem? Anyone got any idea what could be wrong?
Thanks, Si

might sound daft, but have you checked your wheelnuts? other than that, could be a wheelbearing, driveshaft, front diff, small child / greenpiss protester caught up in yer wheelarch.....
Do the brakes feel 'normal'?

TFC,
The brakes feel fine, and I am sure there isn't any roadkill wrapped around anything.
I would say that it is the back passenger side wheel that is causing the problems, but that is just a hunch.
The vibration is subtle but it goes right through the car and is noticeable on the accelerator pedal.
I'll get it booked in and see what the dealer says. As long as it is covered by warranty then I'm not worried! Si

You could have thrown a wheel weight on the front... it'd feel kinda like that.

Right, if it's the rear wheels, it could be the park brake shoes hold down issue (TSB LA206-002, October 2005) is there a lot of brake dust on that wheel? This would also account for the drop in MPG

Hi sst, I would be interested in what your dealership has to say on this, because I have mentioned similar issues to 3 dealerships now, and none of them have had the decency or honesty to own up and say, 'yes this is not as it should be, so lets deal with the issues in a proper and professional way, and get them sorted'. No, they just try to fob me off with, 'it's normal for a TDV6', or 'they are all different,' or 'if you wanted a quiet engine you should have bought the V8'. Well I've just about had enough of it all, and quite frankly have no faith in L/R, L/R customer relations(they are a f***ing joke), or L/R dealerships in general. I know damn well what a good D3 should drive and sound like, I've bl**dy well driven and listened to enough of them by now, yet they still try to tell me mine is as it should be. Also I find certain individuals on this site, to be,lets say, less than sympathetic ,to anyone who may just happen to have genuine problems or defects with their D3's, and just pooh pooh everything that may appear to be negative, believing that because their vehicles are fault free, everyone elses must be too. Please let us know how you get on.Rgds.

DND3... this may be the result of going to city based dealers... have you tried one that sells LR's to more than just city folk ?
Just a suggestion.
And yes... my D3 is great. Has had niggles (is one of the 1st on the road) and has just had the park brake system replaced. My dealer decided to change the whole lot rather than give things a go or fob me off... they ARE good.
Its a shame you've had three bad ones but in fairness there are some great dealers out there and they unfortunately tend to be out of the city.

Ill probably get slated again too, however , engine noise/grinding accelerating especally usually at about 3Krpm/40mph ish, pulling left, vibration usually at about 50-60ish (not wheelbalancing) plus groaning / whumping noise cornering at low-medium speeds round islands is an outstanding issue for me also. Dealer says nothing wrong, but it wasnt always like it.
good luck I will also be keeping an eye on your dealers answer if you post outcome. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Out of interest, which dealer are you using sst?
BTW....DND3......FWIW .....My D3 hasn't been completely fault free...I just get it dealt with in a highly effecient way without moaning and groaning about it...it's called being assertive 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DD... please take it to another dealer and get a second or third opinion.
And when your up at Yarwell it would be no problem for one of us to be driven around so we can here whats what.
I cannot believe your dealer can be so crap that they cannot hear the issue.
Are you a member of the AA or RAC ? They I'm sure would help your case here.

Thanks for the reply Simon, just to put you in the picture, I wouldn't say these are city dealerships, I did try to get a balanced opinion. and I'm going to name them, Stratstone High Wycombe (supplying dealer), H.R. Owen, W.London, T.H. White, Swindon, yes I drove 72 flaming miles each way, and left it there for 2 days, for a 3rd opinion, and they wouldn't deal with the issues because they said the supplying dealership looked at some issues before.(many months before ,when the vehicle was new in fact).Absolute BULLS**T I reckon, don,t you?

AA/RAC no .. LRA have been out 5 times though .... they have advised 2 things needed doing...both times dealer decided to ignore. .. one of them they ignored (needed a new battery) resulted in failure of vehicle a couple of months later ruining 30th birthday present weekend away for g/f.
another example.... I detailed issue of exhaust blowing noise can be heard coming from the front passenger door side of vehicle..... dealer said no fault found.... pushed them on what they had done and turns out they took for a test drive and guy said 'I was sitting in passenger seat and couldnt hear a problem'
I cannot believe my dealer either. LR CS' words were 'we are dissapointed with their response'... which to me is about as close as they will say to ... your dealer is not performing.
Unfortunately I am not willing to take to another dealer now.... as already mentioned, I have been advised that this will confuse my dispute with the dealer who supplied the vehicle and subsequent settlement/compensation, I may at some point however need to get an independant engineers report to document problems for legal action, but hoping thats not going to be necessary. (open to any pm's with names / contact details for suitably qualified engineers who can undertake this if/when its necessary). 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver
