Cam belt and pump belt

Booked disco in today for the cam belt offer, spoke to dealer who checked and said offer ended at the end of last month but due to me not receiving the offer letter they would honour it.
So she goes in on the 22nd and I get courtesy car for the day.
Also getting the 2 pulleys done at same time, they weren't sure if pulleys were in offer but will get them done for the sake of the extra, like they say at least if I get em done and something goes after I'll be covered.

And the price is £399 inc vat

only a tip, but worth gettin the water pump changed, around £30/£40 and will not cost any labour coz they've got to take the belt off and it would be easier just to ubolt the whole unit rather than fanny around with the old belt Whistle

Character,
You seem to keep pushing the changing of the water pump despite Disco_Mikey and other techs saying that it is NOT necessary.

Best Wishes,
Peter

Must say, for the sake of 30-40 £ I would rather have it done just for peace of mind. So I'm with Character on this one Thumbs Up

Ours started weeping at 84k / 6 years and when shown the spin off of the car was def not smooth. I probably would for the sake of a few quid after seeing that.

But the water pump isnt driven by the cambelt, it is driven by the Aux. belt, which takes less than 5 minutes to take off, so it wont really save you much at all

Not needed IMHO Thumbs Up

Some people just don't listen Laughing

It's all down to personal preference at the end of the day. I wouldn't bother as its a piece of Censored to change.

I dont know myself but it may be a piece of Censored to change but a sod to do on a hard shoulder of a m/way in the peeing down rain (or snow) with kids and SWMBO giving you earache saying "that nice man character advised you to do it while it was having the belts done, and for the sake of 34 or 40 £ we are going to be late for my mothers party you tight selfish git. You've done this on purpose you've never liked my mother have you blah blah blah ?!!!!!" Whistle

That's a bad thing why? Laughing

You can't apply that logic to everything though. Eventually, an egr valve will fail. Would you replace them both before they fail, if there is nothing wrong with them? You are more likely to suffer a failed egr valve than a failed water pump...

You pays your money... Thumbs Up

may be not but, i bet egr valve is a lot more expensive,
Anyway I suppose its down to personal choice at the end of the day, (oops you already said that) Just cant understand why bushwanderer seem to be knocking the guy for just giving someone a bit of advise.
And I am not knocking you at all for your comments either. Now can I have your mobile number and characters as well, then depending who,s advise I choose If It goes t Censored ts up I can pass the relevant number on to SWMBO (by the way her picture is on the Welsh flag) Whistle (dont tell her I said that )

Hi Mike,
I'm not knocking character, but I am knocking his advise in this thread.

Forummites asking questions rely on responses to enable them to make sensible decisions. If they received biased advice, they are inclined to make poor decisions. One way to provide balance is to correct bias.

Best Wishes,
Peter
