Suspension Compressor Failure

Crying or Very sad Got suspension failure warning one evening, then next morning susp wouldnt raise from access height. Limped to dealer to find no loan cars and could't look from Fri till next monday. Currently driving useless Mondeo sans tow bar and 2 dog sized boot!

Dealer rings to say compressor hooped and are on back order and LR can't give them a date. Any news on this situation as I can see mine isn't a one off?

Should I try to reject car as only 4mnths 4k old? Still love it would want a new one. Question

Worryingly there was a similar aged one on the ramp awaiting a new engine! Sad Sad Sad

I think someone on here gave their dealer an utilmatum of new car or new compressor and they took the compressor off another one (the one awaiting a new engine would be a good donor vehicle Wink ). I know there was issues with some of the early compressors, looks like unfortunately you've got one of them

Hi MVS - welcome to the site Smile How did you find us by the way?

I think freeflytim is the one with the latest info about the compressors - apparently LR are supposed to be changing supplier, but there is (or was) a backlog of spares and dealers were cannibalising demonstrators and staff vehicles for replacements.

No doubt Tim will appear soonish and give a more informed answer Rolling Eyes

Thanx Martin,

Have been watching site for 6-8 wks. V. Useful informative Laughing

Origional lead to you was from LRO International.

Will update thread when I get some more sense out of dealer. The least that LR could do is offer a free service for the hassle as I can't pull my 2.5tonne IWTrailer, and LR assist have no Disco3's on fleet for 3 more weeks!

Do you think it's worth quoting sale of goods act 'not suitable for purpose for which it was sold' to LR assist or dealer Question

No new news here. Someone here in the US on another board said they got the 'new' compressor but I doubt it... considering you guys in the motherland will get it before we do by at least two or three weeks.

It was me 8) my compressor failed after 9K miles. Got exactly the same story, no parts, mondeo or focus replacement. Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 I gave them 7 days to repair or replace. I also told them that I would take the car (Vectra) off road if they did not hurry up. Got my car back next working day! Don't take any crap, if you threaten them they will do it because they know they don't have a leg to stand on.

I wrote to the Dealer Principal, hand delivering it 5pm on Friday, had a call from him Saturday morning and got the car back Monday afternoon. They told me the part had been taken off the production line, but I'm not so sure. You can't get a LR though your contractual relationship is with the dealer not the manufacturer.Good luck. PM me if you want any more info.

I can assure you guys that compressors are like hens teeth at the moment. Even cars in LR are being held up now.

It is worth noting that although your contractual relationship relative to the purchase is with the dealer - you DO also have a directcontractual relationship with Land Rover, it is in the form of the 3 year warranty Very Happy The warranty provides that LR will repair any manufacturing defects, so even if for whatever reason you do not want to pursue your dealer you can take up the warranty contract directly with LR Wink

You may have recourse through the warranty, but after taking advice I was recommended to use the sale of goods act route as I am a bigger deal to the dealer than to LR so they are far more likley to act quickly. Indeed my dealer accepted that if the deadline was not met they would replace rather than wait.

Also use any clout with refferals you have given them. My family, through me has bought 3 discos this year so a sizable chunk of business that could easily go elsewhere. I'd also threaten to trash the Mondeo offroad as you are entitled to treat the car in the way you use your disco. I think it was Martin who said about the Farmer who was given a Corsa instead of his RR and wrote the Corsa off Twisted Evil

If it makes you feel any better I hear Jeremy Clarkson was given the same option for his Ford GT when it broke down.

As of moments ago LR Cust care, are trying to authorise??!! a line pinch for the compressor, but have to go through certain criteria (Sounds like BS).

Should know more in AM.

Looks like no chance for courtesy vehicle with tow bar which is my main prob as far as working is concerned, Unless I wait 3 wweks for the part when they will have Disco3's on the courtesy fleet for just this situation.

So more waiting

Friday I write the vehicle rejection letter quoting the sale of goods act.

Mad

One huge problem with having a specialist vehicle is when it fails. To obtain a replacement of similar design, i.e. towing and load carrying, is a major problem. If we were all clones and needed the same thing as in the average car, no probs.

I recall once that I had a LR break down in Germany and LR Assist were called. The guy could not fix it and ordered a replacement car. It arrived within about 20 minutes, fantastic, but I had a hell of a job explaining that towing the 2.75 tonne trailer behind a Ford KA (without a tow hitch) would be a bit of a problem.

Eventually the LR was taken away and another truck removed the trailer. Time taken, half a day. Repair about 15 minutes.
