Maybe I'm too practical and pragmatic, ..but in any non urban area, let alone being out in the sticks like I am, you can't rely on anyone but yourself & close mates to move & do stuff. Plus they're as busy as I am.

Round here we generally have tow cars, 4x4's, estates and use them as such. Not just as Chelsea tractors as Jeremy so elequently calls them. So I don't feel that we have that specialist a vehicle it's the norm around here. Even if it's not a LR

I might be a part time Dentist but the other half the week I'm a builder & property developer. I rely on a big tow car (was a Def 90, v.reliable)

Question I wonder whether LR have any figures on what % of their new car sales go out with a tow bar? Question

I'll bet it warrants having them on the courtesy fleet Idea

But then LR cust serv admitted this just they wont have any until 1st August.

As far as heavy duty 4x4's are concerned they are rare in rental fleets, hence the problem. LR Assist rely on hire companies to supply their vehicles as stand ins. The hope is that it is to get you home and the vehicle will be repaired within hours. This as we all know is very often not the case.

The odd thing is that if I want to rent out a 40 tonne artic truck, I can do so within about 30 minutes at almost anytime of the day or night. The cost is actually about the same as a large car.

I think this simply means that we are in basically reliable cars and that we are self sustaining most of the time.

There seem to be a hell of a lot of Defender 90/110 hard tops leased out, and rented on short term basis, I'm sure they're out there.

I relise that I'm an odball, but I'm not bothered if it's a 5yr old trade in or a car going to auction just so long as its got a tow bar. I'm not the pretentious type.

Don't think your an oddball, apart from being a dentist and building houses, thats a bit novel. I suppose you fill the walls with cavity filling Very Happy , sorry back to the serious side.

Hire of 4x4's presents insurance problems and cost problems to dealers and breakdown services. In this part of the UK to hire a LR is difficult even 10 years old, I have tried.

Caterpillar run the LR spares service for Land Rover, so the part would be supplied by LR parts (i.e. Caterpillar), but Caterpillar won't be the manufacturer.

Sorry that they've not managed to get you a compressor - if the dealer can't find you a tow vehicle try somewhere like SHB 4x4 hire, obviously with LR paying Wink

Compressors supposedly promised delivery to LR centrally tom.
Ealiest my dealer COULD see one is wednesday.

BUT LRcust serv. said have had failed deiveries before so no gaurentee.

Also its a case of which dealer's get in there first for any that do turn up, sounds like a free-for all.

Anyway happy I'll be towing again (thanx to nice sales manager returing from his hols today)
