A new D3 owner needs some help! |
|
I have just bought a 56 plate D3. It is currently on Continental 235 70 R17 H111 tyres that are near the end of their life.
I don't want to change the alloy wheels but I'd like to fit a good All Terrain winter tyre and would appreciate any help. Is it possible to fit 265 70 R17's without any problem.
I only use the D3 on the occasional motorway trip and it's mainly used knocking around country lanes and across the odd fields in the Pennine hills. I do live at 950 feet so I'm expecting a little snow before long.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I agree Cooper st or st maxx or toyo open country are a good buy i would also consider running 245/70/17 as i have ran both sizes and the 265 can rub the body, but they look cool.

Cooper stt look meaner than a junk yard dog, have these fitted on my winter wheels also 17s. Not yet been used in anger as the promised snow has not arrived waiting for the white stuff although i might have to try them in the mud so as to scrach the itch mine are also 245s as larger on 17s might rub on full lock [or so im told ] regards Simon.

Cooper STs
The STTs are excellant - but youll only really need them in the most extreme of places, 2 foot of mud etc...... up hill
The STs are great offroad and pretty good onroad - also great in snow
Ive run STs on my D3 for the last 135K miles (5.5 years) - and rarely swapped over the STTs.
The STTs are a lot noisier and drop 3-4 mpg. I would only use STTs if you do short, low speed journeys and spend all day in deep mud, perhaps towing trailers... Duncan

To echo the other comments, don't go for 265/70/17 unless you really need the max extra ground clearance, they will rub the inner arches a touch and will impact the MPG.
Go for a 245/70/17, plenty of AT's in that size, if you want bigger, 265/65/17 fit without rubbing but again the wider tyre an over gearing will hinder mpg on shorter runs. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Were they the ST MAXX?
Cooper Discoverer STs have been superceded by the Cooper ST MAXX aparently the old version were 4 ply where as the MAXX are 10 ply and a resulting increase in price.
Tried most places local to me (NE England) and the main LRO mag advertisers for old STs but non to be found, in the winter they were great and once a month greenlaning trip spot on! Even the odd motorway trip and running around town for work, kids etc ... ...
