if its smoking then its working. the more it works the less smoke it will produce in time at least. Some days i start mine and im lucky to see smoke and on other days like this morning swmbo thought it was on fire. Think it also depends how its switched off. Mine can be manually controlled but if i start the engine while its working manually it interupts the burn and probably overfuels it so therefore next time it fires more smoke.

Trust me there are lots of forum members who pray for smoke on every cold morning.

Thanks Ceekay, mine is working/smoking properly Thumbs Up , i was reassuring the starter of this thread that in my opinion the smoke he photographed was normal and would probably pass, my issue now is whether I have bog standard aircon or climate control Shocked .

Sorry Pal

I've slept since I read the beginning of this post and im gettin old so I forgot.

If I was to take a guess it would be that all disco 3's have both as I cant see anything from 2004 onward only having air-con without climate but I stand to be corrected.

Cheers, Ceekay

Air conditioning simply chills and de-humidifies the air, as found on basic cars and I believe the very early 5 seat base D3's, identified by a button usually depicting a snowflake to switch on and off. Cabin temperature is manually adjusted with a dial with no temperature markings, just a red/blue scale.

Climate Control (as fitted to most D3's) has no snowflake button switch as the air-con runs all the time unless you press the ECON button (economy, air con compressor clutch disengaged). You set the temperature via the numbered dial and the system then maintains this constant cabin temperature automatically.

Thumbs Up

Must admit i haven't tried it with the switch in the off position, i so rarely use that switch. As soon as it gets cold enough i will try it.
Incidentally I’m on the lookout for a Webasto 1533 oval timer Thumbs Up

This morning was cold enough (4*) to test Dave T’s theory, and you are absolutely spot on Dave. With the climate control on/off button in the off position the FBH didn’t even try, but in the on position (where I always leave it) the heater works fine Thumbs Up .

How did you get on with your FBH CFB Question

I can't believe that, being on my 8th winter with the D3 and its FBH, that I have resorted to searching on here to satisfy myself that my depth of white smoke is normal Thud
I must be losing my memory, of course it's normal. Mr. Green

So mine never smokes, twas 2 degrees this morning, so I popped the bonnet before starting her up then after starting her I walked round to the nearside wheel arch....put my hand down the side and could feel air being pushed down.

No heat yet on FBH, so I went back to get and laod dog, before touching the FBH pipe.....this time nice and hot Thumbs Up So FBH deff working, but not a sign of any smoke at all

My FBH has come on when it should, since I've owned my D3 S for the past 3yrs.

Over the past couple of days it again has come on but with extreme amounts of smoke, to the point that people are approaching me or SWMBO, and worried our pride and enjoy is about to go up in flames !!
Having parked up tonight and walking past the D3, as I type, I can smell the exhaust fumes off my clothes !!

So, is there a known problem for the excessive smoke etc..?
you need the bad times to appreciate the good..........
