Replacement key fob?

Hi

I have a disco3 and the key fobs have had their day!

Is there any other way than paying main dealer prices?

I have two key fobs, one is dead and one is dying

Any help would be great

Thanks

Adrian

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic39609.h...key+%2Bfob EDITED - Link replaced

I am currently in the middle of replacing the battery in mine - it can be done apparently, despite what Land Rover say.

DIY?

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

Is it a straight forward job?
I saw the link and it looks ok to try.

Can I ask where you got it from?

Thanks

Adrian

I found it quite difficult to crack the case open - in the end I took it to my local Timpson's and he just stuck it in a vice, put a screw driver in the gap in the casing and gave it one twist and it cracked open.

The battery is this one. I got it from amazon, but they are out of stock:

PS the link above is rubbish - try this one

Ah that looks Familiar

I cant believe no one had cracked one open before and sussed this out.

As you note on the linked thread, you need to have quite a "can do" attitude to crack the case open, but at the same time consider that you will need to glue it back together so try not to damage it too much if you want the best looking result.

The battery can be got from loads of places.

Preferring the ability to easily replace the Battery over having a totally watertight fob i elected to glue mine back together with just a few dabs of Superglue in the corners such that it could more easily be re opened in future.

This is great thanks.

It has saved me the cost of a new key!

I just took a flat head screwdriver to my spare key last night and eventually, as with most things, brute force and ignorance cracked it open.

The thing I found hardest was actualy getting the battery off the board as the terminals are soldered in.

Anyway, as I said, thanks, I was just days away from ordering a whole new key from LR.
