Diesel particle filter fitted

I thought I should report that I had a diesel particle filter (as offered by LR) fitted to my D3 while it was in for its first major service (I have just reached 30000 kms without any problems). Since then I haven't noticed any change to the performance or fuel consumption.

The filter cost €593,14 (about £400) + VAT. With a bit of luck, I hope to get maybe €300 back as a tax rebate (the tax rebate hasn't been confirmed yet).

How often does the particulate filter have to be cleaned out?

I'm not sure about that.

To make things clear, in case there is a misunderstanding, I should say that this particle filter is fitted in the exhaust, to remove those microscopic diesel particles which, reportedly, can cause cancer.

I am assuming that it will have to be replaced sometime, like other parts of the exhaust system.

The filter I had fitted is of the add-on variety. Does anyone know whether LR plans to fit built-in particle filters any time? I believe that they are supposed to be more effective.

The retro fit ones are a wrapped foil type. They are not as efficient as the ceramic ones. They achieve burnoff (self cleaning) under sustained high load running, however as they are not full flow if they fill they do not impede exhaust flow.
