Cruise control in an 05 Manual |
|
I am no doubt asking a silly question but once I have set cruise control speed is nicely maintained until I go down hill.
The question is should cruise control slow me down [on a down hill gradient] as well as speed me up [on an up hill gradient] to maintain my set speed?

Yes... but only within the limitations of the gear you are in. Since you have a manual, if you're in a high gear, then the car may not be able to slow you down. In an auto, it could select a lower gear in order to increase the revs and thus the engine-braking, but in a manual you may have to select the correct gear yourself - which, of course, deselects the cruise control! 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

Twelvesticks - that is what I had assumed. cruise control on a manual is also compromised when trying to maintain speed uphill, on a manual as it is reliant on you the driver to change down otherwise it will go nowhere. D4 2014

Even more reason to prefer a manual.. D4 2014

As for downhill slowing all it can do
Is lift of the throttle, it cannot brake for you.
Having said that I'm mine (05 manual) even when towing when on the motorway I have never found a hill that has required a gear change so the cruise works very well.

Thanks for that I just needed confirmation that I shouldn't be expecting any braking input from cruise control D4 2014
