Just wondering what happens here. If you just get out and walk away from the car does it lock (assuming you have the smart key with you)? Does it single lock or double lock? Do you have to push the little button on the handle or the smart key?
I've been reading the on-line manual before I (hopefully!!) pick up on Saturday...

when you walk away (with the key) you can press the button on the door handle and it will lock or you can press the button on the key and it will lock.
if you leave the leys in the car, then press the button on the door it will beep twice but wont lock.
you can also start the car - walk away with the key and lock the door
to enable the sensor alarms you need the press the lock button twice, which is the opposite to the D3 where you had to press the button twice to disable them. to be honest, i only ever press the button once. Duncan

Hi Clubber,
You just have the key on your person somewhere. When you get out of the car, just push the button on the door handle and walk away. If you give it a double push, almost like double clicking of you like, it deadlocks the doors. The car can still be locked with the remote in the usual way too.

It's a 59 HSE. Got the surround cameras, TV, privacy, new set of Grabber AT's, am I gushing now...
Put it this way, my D1 is being sold today which I'll be sorry to see go. However, the D4 HSE will more than make up for it I think!

Sounds superb! The cameras are fantastic. At first I thought they were going to be a bit gimmicky but IMHO they are truly a useful bit of kit! Parking is a doddle - much easier than the 60 reg Mondeo I had before and that wasn't the hardest car in the world to manouvre!  My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

So just to confirm my OP, when leaving the car, I do need to press something, either the door button or the smartkey button (either once or twice depending on single or double lock). IE, I can't just walk away.....

yes you need to press something, the key or the door handle button.
You can also just walk away - but expect to find bits missing from your car when you return
