remote locking key

Hi all,

just purchased a 2005 tdv6 hse. both fobs appeared to work when collected, however now they have a mid of there own, work ok then dont. i have looked at the splice connection of the green/white wires seemed to help then stopped again. Very odd as the fobs work in succession then leave the car for a bit and they dont work!

Any ideas where to look next? there were 3 green wires i re spliced- is this correct?

Splice on each side?

I am starting to think that there are two splices, one on each side. Yes, three conductors in each spice; one feed wire and then one wire to each of the door locks on one side - hence the splice on each side theory.

Also if you look at the door lock pdf below, page 222, you will see splice SJ11 and SJ670 which I think are the spliced conductors - well they are green anyway and SJ11 goes to the left side; SJ670 to the right side.

Also use both key fobs, say alternatively a week at a time for a month or so just to get them charged up. You do not know what the condition of the internal rechargeable batteries is so you have to assume both fobs are down.

thanks for the info, will investigate the right hand side of the car this evening! At a loss as to the problem other than this as the fobs work (both of them) and then the next minute they dont!

Can anyone confirm the location of the receiver- is it behind the front sunroof attached to the roof above the alarm sensor panel? has about 5/6 wires on a connector each side of the unit?

receiver is up there between B pillars

While I have never seen the RF Receiver, I have read posts that say the receiver is above the head liner and I gather behind the sunroof in the sloping up part between the B pillars. Also the link below shows the receiver up there as well.

You might also try the search function here in disco3 using +lock +receiver or similar as search words, I did, but did not find anything specific.

From the posts I recall, the receiver has for the most part been OK, it is just the wires from the receiver that are the problem. I will be interested to hear about the "second" splice location.

If you find some red wires ....

When you are looking for the green wires and a splice, you might find a splice and some red wires. You might want to redo that splice as well. Those wires power the four window switch lights; also you might first check to see if you have window switch illumination at night - probably do, but worth re-splicing while you are in there.

yes i came across the other splice and checked to ensure all ok. I looked at both sides of the car last night. the left hand siude had the splices as mentioned previously but nothing on the right- found a green/white wire but no join. having re done the splice on the left the locking continues to be intermittent. I also checked the rf had 12v to it and it does. next plan i think is a n ew rf reciever- shame as no water ingress etc evident! any ideas on cost of these things?

Wonder where the second splice is?

So you found the splice with the red wires but no second splice with the green wires. Given that the wiring drawings show two green wire splices, I wonder just where that second splice is.

I note that you did find a green white wire conductor in the bundle on the other side so I wonder where is was going and also coming from.

Getting at the RF Receiver requires one to remove the head liner - a bit of a nuisance, but OK as long as replacement fixes the problem. The part number of the 433 MHz Receiver Radio Remote Control is or was YWY000120, now probably YWY500210, and the cost about thirty pounds.

http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/products/...500210.php

For for the 315 MHz RRRC, part number YWY500140. the cost about forty pounds.

http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/store/results.php?s=YWY500140

If you look into the slot in the key fob where the metal key part recesses, the system frequency should be printed there.

just think there should be a second green wire splice

Somehow I just think that there should be a second green wire splice. Tearing the headliner down is no fun, but other than the receiver or the splice bit, I cannot think what the problem would be.

I doubt that it is both keys - that is very unlikely.

Unplug and replug the connector?

Maybe just try unplugging the RF Receiver connector and then plugging it back in.

The problem must be a connection so perhaps the connector is internally dirty or loose.

The reason I wonder about there being two green wire splices is that I redall reading of people fixing the splice on both the left and right sides of the 3.

The problem is I now cannot find any of the references to a right side splice to determine if it was a LRH or RHD vehicle. You found your splices on the left hand side and that is where others have found both the red wire and green wire splices and in all those cases, the vehicles were RHD.

bbyer, tried the unplug and replug trick last night still no joy- its very odd- the rf receiver isnt overly expensive so will buy one and try that!

running out of options

Changing the module seems like about the best option now. My read of the wiring diagram is that there is only a single Blue wire going into the RF Receiver. That must be wrong as they should at least be a ground and somehow I doubt that the blue conductor is power either. If there is a ground conductor, grounds can be intermittent.

If that does not work, then about all I can think of is trying to follow that single green conductor that seemed to be all by itself. It just seems to me that there should be a second splice somewhere.
