Is it unusual.....

... for a transfer box to give up after 56k miles???

So far, just over a month into ownership I've had to fork out for a wheel bearing, driveshaft and transfer box. Big Cry
Just over £2.5k for that lot and still not sure if it's going to remedy the fault. It'll be fixed by the end of the week so I should know then.

Also had to replace two tyres but that was down to a puncture! Rolling Eyes

Given that it was a private sale and that it's nearly six years old, I'm sure I don't have a pot to pee in for any comeback but was just wondering if it's a relatively common thing to happen at this mileage or if I've just bought a lemon.

To be fair, I was well warned not to buy one but I still went ahead with it because I do like them!! Laughing

I take it the people who told you not to buy have never owned one. They do have faults as do all cars, but no other car can do as much. To be honest I think you have been unlucky I don't think it's common for major bits to fail at that mileage. The bit that's really suprised me is wheel bearing at 56k, normally they go well over 70k. Don't give up on it, and the people who advised against will never know what they are missing.
