Why do these things only happen when your boot is full and you have a deadline to work to? Have a boot full of barrels, a Sankey full of apples, a pressing appointment (literally) at the cider mill this afternoon and a cargo barrier in place. I also have a failed tailgate actuator.
Switch was replaced earlier this year. Right pain in the backside. Having another "why didn't I get the Touareg or ML" moment
So, let's have a poll. Can everyone reading this click to indicate what failures they have had (and an option for those with no issues). D3 issues only please - if you have had this issue on the D4 it would be appreciated if you can post a comment but not take part in the poll for the moment I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Sods law, it always happens when it's most inconvenient.
Driver door lock is the only issue so far, so will vote accordingly.

Mine has just failed for the second time in 9 mths , thanks to the forum, i've managed to remove the lower tailgate trim without any damage, found the cable has snapped New latch required!
Luckily my boot was empty, last time the switch had failed due to water ingress,
mine failed under warranty but not sure what failed other than dealer repaired it. So not much help in your survey as haven't clicked anything....TDV6 HSE Lux (2014MY)

Never had any kind of failure on either D3. I am a regular user of the tailgate too. It must be the way you open it Al

That's correct, I was told to stand on one leg and only use my peter pointer for pressing the button - I do it religously.

The switch-flappy-bit seized on mine - a nice man in a yellow van came to 'fix' it..........clearly didnt have a clue so rammed a large screwdriver up under the rubber cover to 'try and free it off a bit', ended up fubar'ing the non-replaceable switch unit - LR replaced the whole door handle under warranty !Jim
Standard TDV6 HSE
Non-standard Td5 110 Hardtop
The switch was replaced under warranty when the car was about 2 years old as it had rusted quite badly, and the cable went last year.
I think the switch is rusting again as it feels 'different'.As you slide down the banister of life

mine failed last weekend, but it was the 90degree bend at the end of the cable that snapped, easy to fix by just bending the end of the cable 90degrees and refitting. Bit of a to get at from inside the boot though
latch needed a little lubricant
Acutator was fine
handle/switch was fine and car is 4 years old
is is actually stronger after you bend the broken cable because the new bend then has the cable as part of it rather than just a bit of hollow metal. It difficult to explain without photos !
a new lock and cable costs about £20, but its still weaker than a fix.Duncan

just a single cable failure for me in 5 years, ( with three dogs loaded in + dog guard + divider installed - three minutes to remove the guard from one of the side doors, no panics just quizzical looks from the woofers ) sorted in just over half an hour at the dealers under extended warranty, no problems with the switch at all...and theeeeennn......???

Not had a problem with the D3 tailgate in any way during 3 years and 75,000 miles of ownership and not had any problem in the D4 after 1 year and 18.000 miles either. Just for balance you understand!
Absolutely DD. I want those with no problems to post and take part in the survey as well, so I can get a feel for the numbers involved. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
