IMHO, I would not touch a Land Rover with such high mileage, unless it is certified by a dealer with a two year warranty. But that is just me and the only reason why I bought my current car, it had three years of warranty left.

I would have always gone for a manual over an auto in a landy until I drove the D4, now I would not like a manual, the auto is sweeet in town and easy offroad.
I would not be put off by high mileage if the condition is good and it's well serviced. Maybe go for one of those independant checks if you are not sure.
as for +2mpg dif. between auto/manual over 5 years at 10k a year about 900quid
less than the difference in resale? not really worth sweating over
