Where can I get information about an engines history? |
|
When I bought my replacement engine it was advertised with "full service history", which I have never recieved no matter how many letters, e mails and phone calls I make (a downside of being the other end of the country). Obviously without a service history for the engine my second hand value will be reduced by some percentage.
With the engine number how can I find what the donor car was and where it was serviced? Is it something LR would have records of? Do they have records of servicing or do I need to find the actual dealer somehow? Joined the BMWX5 45e group

sorry Dave
you cannot search vehicle from engine number
also LR do not keep service records either so chances of you finding the donor car are slim to nothing unless the people who supplied keep records
Edit:
i have actually asked the question to LR to see if any of their databases can do it as we certainly cannot TLO has left the building.......

Yes, the DVLA will have the information about which car the engine's been in. Obviously not it's service history though. How you go about prising it from their records may be another matter, and if possible will no doubt involve crossing their palms with silver.

You are not alone,
I have been battling the stealership to release the service records for my car to see what work they have been doing, no chance. The moron of a service rep claims that the stamp on the service book is all that I will ever need. I have a feeling I am being screwed royally here and that they are not performing the service they claim they are performing, why else would they not give me a copy of the service record

Surely the suppler of the engine MUST provide the "full service history" advertised.
If it's not available then you should be able to seek redress somewhere - did you buy on ebay, pay with credit card, how about trading standards.

Yes they should, as I said it was purchase from the other end of the country.
Unfortunately, the Ebay ad was for breaking a whole D3, ring for parts, which I did. He then made another ad and posted for me to "buy now" with the details, BUT because he listed it as a Vehicle, which for one I didn't notice and then even if I had, I wouldn't have realised that ANYTHING IN THAT CATEGORY is not covered by Ebay buyer protection as I have since found out - it really is true "LET THE BUYER BEWARE"
I also trusted the guy (I know, what a numpty ) and did a bank transfer (doh ). This was all at a time where I was hemoraging money into my D3 and just wanted the world to swallow me up, so a friendly voice sounded ok.
So I end up in this position where I am screwed by all concerned (apart from Strathearn and Diso_Mikey of course ) in the attempted repair of my D3 and have spent the last 4 months trying to get my money back, with only limited success so far. Joined the BMWX5 45e group
