Before my HP pump was replaced, they changed the fuel pressure regulator - it actually made it slightly worse, in so far as it hunted a bit - if that is the right phrase - though most wouldn't notice.
What also happened with mine was the fuel economy dropped from an average of 28/29 to 24/25. Now the pump is working, it is back up at the top
But it did take some time to drop - it gradually fell over several months - then winter arrived, which always knocks a bit off, but never recovered in the spring - and the fault got worse too. Mark.

just been pondering a bit mikey |
|
if the pick up pipe in the tank was blocked the fault would kick in all the time yes ! but fault tends to happen when the car is hot some times drive 60 miles before it kicks in when the fuel is hot if it was the pick up pipe would it not happen when cold when the fuel is a bit thicker ? just a thought always up to somert usualy no good acording to swmbo

Could 2290 also be a red hearing?
We have had fault code 2290 on and off for ages but she runs perfectly (touches wood and crosses fingers)

I would have thought air wouldn't help Mark.

I have had the same problem with my D 3. While towing my ifor williams trailer across sailsbury plan on the weekend, we were climbing a long hill and two thirds of the way up it I got "bing" ESF followed by loss of power!!!!
Managed to pull over in the next layby turn her off and away we went all the way back to Newmarket with out further problem. The car hasn,t been as smooth to drive of late and the tick over didn,t sound even.
It has just come back from the dealers today after a new fuel filter and a software upgrade and she seems to be running well again.
I do have a noise which sounds like a rattle from the engine when I let off the power! dealers said it was the egr vavles last time it was in, which were then replaced will i be stuck with the rattle untill i blank them off?
