Loud Crack from rear roof? |
|
For the last few weeks, a few times during any journey, there is an almighty 'crack' sound coming from behind the driver and roof direction.
I have checked the roof glass and nothing is broken, but the sound suggested it was a major crack or the glass roof breaking free of its bonding. But obviously if it was either of these things I would only have heard it once.
I have searched the forum but haven't found anything similar.
Anyone? Wot's that in Old Money

Do you have roof rails/bars/roof rack? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

No bars or anything no.
It's a bit puzzling. Needs a bit more than SWIMBO investigating while I drive. Wot's that in Old Money

Might be worth checking the roof rail or trim to see if it's loose. I could envisage one of these making a good crack if it's lifted up by the wind and slaps back down. Otherwise, puzzled

I had this a while back, and it turned out to be a part-full bottle of water, expanding and contracting in hot weather. It made a surprisingly loud cracking noise, and appeared to be coming from high up, but was in fact in the rear door pocket.
Worth checking?

I am going to empty EVERYTHING out. That way I exclude everything that isn't car related.
Next, going to check jack as that came out a while ago.
Also will check the rails just in case.
I'm not sure it's temp related as I just popped out in it (it's cool out) and heard the crack tonight.
It doesn't sound like a bottle expanding it's a sound related to a metal part of some kind. (yeh I'm not being very helpful) Wot's that in Old Money

Hi, did you find a fix for this noise? I posted a post last week "Loud Cracking Noise" which sounds very similar. Be interested to hear if you resolved it.
Thanks
Graeme

I had something like this last year. I swore it came from the roof but actually it was a stop hitting the windscreen.
