Discodad is technically correct but in practical terms he could get you a night in a nice French cell!
EU law requires you to be in possession of a valid, recognised ID card, which can be a Passport or a National ID card.
The UK does not have a national ID card (remember that little fiasco!) so your only option (assuming you are a citizen of Her Britannic Majesty) is a Passport.
Various reports of French authorities forcibly repartiating miscreant Brits who thought they didn't need one.

ND will look out for Jeff. Have seen a red disco in car park so far loswoks good here. Sun is shinning swmbo says showers and toilets are lovely and clean so that makes life better for me as i chose the site!
Yup, red disco and a V8 110 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Ok,Back from hols now.
Popelka,it was my 6 year old daughters passport so no other photo ID,
They say some things happen for a reason,well....
Went to the recommended campsite(thanks Nodo$h and Dan) Carlyon Bay Camping which is run by site member Jeff, absolutly fantastic, only thing missing was a Bar but after doing the touristy things all day and getting back to camp i was only fit for 2 bottles of Rattler then bed(yes i know, lightweight)
The site was immaculate with a well stocked shop onsite, very clean toilets with always warm showers and an outdoor heated swimming pool.there were also excellent views of the local buzzards dinning on the local small mamals.

This was a lovely little road i found linking the A390 and A38,Max hieght was 6Ft 9",i had the roof box on Made it by the skin of my teeth
The weather was a bit wet at times as Dan will confirm but not cold.
I had never been to Cornwall before but in a way i am glad the passport was late(1 1/2 weeks late).
Next years holiday plans......week and a half in France and week and a half in Cornwall me thinks.
Thanks to all for the helpfull suggestions and thanks to Jeff for being very welcomeing and helpfull.
Dan.it was a pleasure meeting you and the family, who knows, might see you there next year.

Glad you enjoyed it Brian. Cornwall is a lovely part of the world. It was a lovely campsite one which you totally recommend. It chucked it down for us a lot of way home but the disco made it so easy.
Good to meet you and yr family as well- as you say who knows next yr although you'll have to go in our school holidays!
ND- jeff did say to say hello!
May have a chance to pop down there later in August. Hope so; thoroughly enjoyed our last stay there.

Just thought i would update and say we have all our passports now so we are heading to France this year and cause the site was so good in Cornwall we are doing a week at the Carlyon Camping ground also.
So it just proves that some good can come from some bad
