D4 Navigation upgrades ...very expensive |
|
Im having Eastern european maps loaded onto my new D4 before i pick it up (as well as the standard Western map that comes with it )
My dealer has never been asked for this before ..so they have been doing a bit of digging .
You cannot order the update your self ..as previously led to believe ...the dealer has to order the codes from Navteq then that allows them to upload the map to your car .
Cost ....£200 +vat
There not going to sell many updates at that price G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

They ordered the code before I okayed the price ...
Spoke to service manager who said they paid £155 +vat ..
I have come to a deal ...because they didnt ask me first and they have already ordered the code
But yes you are correct they do have all the master disks there ...they just cant upload them without the code .
Have you ever been asked for this .?..as i belive it was the parts guy who ordered the code
How often to they get updated disks ? ..i can imagine its going to be at least a year old ... G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

What do you get for so much money??
Garmin do a 'For Life' mapping upgrade system for a one off sum of £75.00 which gives you new maps every three months PLUS any system upgrades they do for the units are FREE of charge. LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

Got anyone in Mind Bodsy
It's actually far worse than you might imagine over here in Cyprus, because even the Eastern European maps from Navteq that LR use, do not yet cover Cyprus.
The island simply does not exist and it stupidly shows you driving around in the sea.
That would be just funny, exept that due to taxes here, LR's typically cost almost double what they do in the UK and the Spec situation is the same, where Sat Nav is automatically included in any HSE like spec.
So folks laying out 80K on a 2010 Sport for example are quite upset when they realise that the state of the art HDD promoted 3K Sat Nav installed in their vehicles is about as much use as a concrete kite. Especially when they can buy a Portable Sat Nav that covers Cyprus for like 100 GBP at quite a number of retail outlets.

Now I wonder how much they will charge for the Australian Maps upgrade.
Only one dealer in Adelaide, so unless I shop around and am willing to drive interstate it looks like I am going to get ripped off.
Realistlically Land Rover as a partner of NavTec should be getting map upgrades at a reasonable price.
Garmin can do it and they use the same mapping service.
Come on Land Rover, we buy into your product and in most cases praise it.
I must be mad Discovery 4 2.7 SE

This company does the gps software for the chinese landrover gps system(I came across thier name when messing about with mine in a carpark)
http://eng.rousen.com/
Maybe they can offer maps
these screen shots look just like mine (but without the German street names )

If you see the car is in fact a landroverish thing It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
