Your not getting my point.....when the hp pump is running there is neg pressure in the low pressure line where it would normally read a poss pressure as it starts. If the hp pump was drawing its own fuel there wouldnt be neg pressure in the line.

No I'm not.
I don't get the comment "If the hp pump was drawing its own fuel there wouldnt be neg pressure in the line." Yes there would - it would suck on the line as it draws the fuel from the tank. Sucking a liquid is hard work - much easier to push it, which is why there is a LP pump. Mark.

Angel. I wrote that wrong, that should read "if it wasnt drawing its own fuel! Before starting the hp pump is supplied 0.50 bar after it starts there is neg pressure in that line which means that vacuum created by the hp pump is greater than the pressure supplied by the lp pump. Like i siad previous stick your gauges on and take a look yourself...

Whilst, I don't doubt it will run without the LP pump, I suspect that if you start to give it some, then you will get ESF messages Mark.

Adrian I am going through the same pain at the moment. Also battled to source a recon or secondhand unit. Eventually managed to get one off a guy who was stripping a D3. Try Leimers Landrover on 011-795 2507 - they were the best priced at about R8.5K before I found the second hand unit. You can also try British 4x4 on 012-755 8539, they often have D3 parts available.
As a matter of interest who do you use to service your D3?
Regards

packingstrips Agree it will run tell you more it will start
when the D3 was launched there was a problem with fuel gages reading incorectly
to fix it land rover recommended to change the fuel tanks
because we were sweating to make customers happy and land rover coudnt supply the parts quickly enough
we removed the fuel tank from sparkling new vehicle and fitted is as warrenty replacement
NEW disco remained without the tank AT ALL !!!!
another mechanic took it for a spin long enough only HP pump and fuel filter so it did run and start indeed
However: many times witnedsed myself 2.7TDV6 did stall after fuel pump stoped (got siezed aka faild)
the broke pump worked as a plug not alowing the HP pump to pump the fuel thrue it
and after emptying fuel filter the vehicle starved for fuel and stopped
so the freespin of the intank unit in very important for the fuel delivery even if dont built the pressure
dont know how long did u run d3 without the fuse but in my opinion it was using fuel filter fuel and eventually would stall
Anothe point sometimes the mesh at the bottom of intank pump get gunked wit dirt and justs not allows the fuel thrue (even if the electric pump is spinning which still be considered as intank unit failure and
disabling vehicle from running
So i do believe if the fuel flow is not affected it will run on HP pump only
but failure or blockage of intank unit affects free flow and vehicle stops
both of which i witnesed myself
in my opinon litle intank unit cant be underestimated

what a bull that LP pump is only for starting
failure of fuel tank unit will rather cause lack of power as well as engine will stall if intank pump will stop working
Your back track as been duly noted. The problem with life is that when you actually say something most people dont remember what you have said , the problem with forums is that it stays with you and just sometimes may come back to haunt you. Now im not a gloating man and i will leave it there, however, i find it best that before you say someone is full of bull you need to know how the system works and pass comment when your sure.

I for one don't understand the comment Packing
As far as I can see the post you refer to hasn't been altered, so no back tracking.
Or are you now backtracking what you say Mark.

Adrian, I have managed to find quite a few parts at
City Deep Auto TEL: 011 613-3779 / 011 613-5592
Contact Joe, Themba, Hendrik or Frank
NO 1 BONSMARA ROAD, CITY DEEP
Specialising in 4X4'S, Quantum, Landrover
last time I was there they had about 5 D3's in various states of disrepair, most with frontal impacts
(I have no connection with this company at all, apart from having bought a few parts there)
