Valoblk,
Did you get the surround sent from the uk ?

Just got back yesterday from a brief trip out of the Country, and the surround was at my front door!

I ended up ordering from Britcar (UK) LTD - placed the order at the end of Jan and it apparently arrived a few days ago. If it doesn't snow today, I plan to work on the install this morning.

Thanks again to all, and I'll keep you posted..... Thumbs Up

I know this may have been mentioned, but having read the entire thread couldn't spot anything. What is the satilite pick up like with the unit tucked away so to speak. Also would one of you kind gents put a list together of everything you need for this install ie wires, adapters etc.

Think I will be ordering the D4 surround and having a look at what sat nav units suits my needs best.

Thanks all for a really top thread.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy,

After looking at all the GPS devices out there, I personally went for the Garmin LMT 1490 because the screen was a near perfect fit for the surround. The only draw back with this GPS was the screen surround which prevented th GPS from sitting flush with the D4 surround. I solved this by taking the GPS apart and removing the surround. There's a video on YouTube that explains how to do this.

I also purchased the Garmin Eco Route which plugs into the obd port and gives you gauges and diagnostic info, it's pretty cool. It connects to the gps via Bluetooth and tucks nicely out the way.

D4 Surround obviously.

And a trip to the local hardware store for a couple of 90deg brackets etc so that you can hold the gps to the surround. This was the most difficult part, finding the right screws, etc. In the end, i just took the D4 surround with me to the store and ended up building the backing plate in store.

As for reception, no issue. I also have traffic with my Garmin and the receiver is tucked behind the cd player somewhere, it's not sitting on the shelf where the Garmin would be, and it works perfectly too.

Hope that helps.

Does anyone know if a reversing camera will work with a sat nav without the tv function. Not to worried about the tv but would like to fit a reverse camera.

Cheers

Don't forget to put plenty of details about the 1490tv! Either here or post a link to another thread! That has potential to be great.

Pros are tv, bluetooth phone, ipod connection (I think?), reverse camera, eco route

Question is how well will it work? Can you feed the sound to auxiliary on the stereo? Great for tv, mp3 ipod etc. but then you wouldn't hear sat nav if listening to the radio? What will the menu look like when it starts up - would be nice to look factoryish.... is the phone bluetooth able to use a separate mic?

If it all works well could be lovely.... Smile

Not got round to wiring up yet so just using it stuck to the screen. Didn't have the traffic cable plugged in but still got the traffic icon (2 cars next to each other top left of screen) so was thinking that the power cable has a built in receiver. If its raining tomorrow may have a play arround as if it isn't raining SWMBO has got me in the garden planting trees.

When using the 1490tv, does the handsfree phone still work ok? As the screen and microphone will be behind the Land Rover fascia, I was wondering if this makes it unfeasible to use?

If so I guess if the unit is taken apart, the microphone could be extended to nearer the driver?

I was also wondering how easy this would be to connect to the mute function on the stereo? Have the sat nav go through the car stereo speakers, but when the sat nav speaks it would mute the front speakers having the sat nav voice, or phone voice go through the car speakers?

If any of this makes sense?

When I tested it the rearview camera is displayed whole time when plugged in, I was just thinking of adding a switch to cut power to camera when not required or connect to reverse ligh. When camera haven't got power the garmin reverts back to gps or tv. This function of the 149O tv is handy to check your black view camera as well!

AV input is on the side just above the headphone socket, 3.5mm jack I think.

Going to start my install on Saturday, wish me luck.

Probably going to be an eBay special. Will have a look and pick the one that looks and sounds the best but for the price well worth a punt. May look at putting the TV antenna on the windscreen, on family trips the nephew and nice sit in the boot and WILL pull them off if I mount them back there.
