Thanks for the reply, Fat Bloke! I greatly appreciate your assistance.

I actually had the part number from the beginning of the thread; however, none of the four LR dealers in my area stock the part and it's on natiowide backorder. (I even had to explain to one parts guy that the US LR4 is the Discovery 4 everywhere else in the world, and I had to show him pictures from this very thread on my iPhone to get him to understand what I was trying to accomplish Rolling Eyes ) The only dealer that was even willing to attempt to order it from the UK quoted me a price nearly 5 times what people here have reported paying for it.

I was hoping that someone on the forum might have a lead on a company that might be willing to ship the part to me across the pond for a reasonable price.

Thanks again to all!

I've not used this specific unit, but it's pretty similar to generic ones that I've used in the past to hardwire radar detectors, etc. I've had a very similar unit (also sourced from Fleabay) in my Wife's Infiniti powering her XM Tuner for the past 5 years. These boxes are great for simplifying installation, but i would recommend wiring a fuse inline with the 12v+ lead for safety's sake. I'm planning on modifying a 12V lighter adapter (or the traffic reciever) when I install mine, but the unit you are considering is a good option.

That's just because you are planning on hardwiring it, assuming you are going to splice the wires from the eBay box directly into the cig lighter wires to get 12V+. I didn't see a provision for a fuse on the hardwire 12V to 5V Mini-USB box, so I was recommending wiring a fuse inline between the 12V+ power from the vehicle and the splice to the box. Not critical, but certainly wouldn't hurt.

I need to re-read the thread again, but it seems that most are splicing some sort of cig lighter socket adapter in, and plugging a standard car adapter into that. the lighter adapters that come with, well, everything, have fuses inside.

Hope that clears things up!

Mine is now installed Thumbs Up but I've connected original lead to a 12 connecter behind the h trim which is wired to the auxiliary 12v , is there any way of turning the garmin off if not needed other then disconnecting or removing keys ??.
