I don't know about the TDV8 but I heard this about the diesel in the Jag which is the same as the one in our D3's. Not sure if its related or just an isolated issue Jag had.
But it was reported in Autocar and AutoExpress a few months ago. Forgot all about it (it was Jag related) until I saw Andrews post.

I think it may be related to the material that is used for the head gasket itself. When Land Rover decided to go greener 2 years ago they started using plant fibres in various parts of production. However using Banana skins as head gaskets was not one of their brightest ideas. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Oh.... my.... god....... why didn't someone warn us that the TDV6 is a potential dog of a power unit, is this really what we may have to experience, well thanks the lot Land Rover, or should I say Ford/Peugeot. Not enough prior testing before selling it to us I reckon. Anyone know the technical details of any serious TDV6 problems? An over reaction ....well maybe, but my supplying dealer, and I suspect a few others, have reported several TDV6 engine changes, some, but not all ,caused by owners negligence like never checking the oil, or running petrol through it for a fair few miles.

I thought the gasket was made out of groundnut fibre? There were a number of manufacturers looking at this green alternative. Fortunately it was realised if you pay peanuts you get monkeys!

Driving through a swampy part of a farm at off road height, I got transmission fault-slow to a halt, HDC unavailable, suspension warning, lowering, system failure, one straight after another.
In fact, it happened so fast that it didn't get a chance to lower much from off road height because the system failure halted all off road systems including the lowering of the suspension.
Switched off, didn't even wait for the clock to disappear, switched back on and all was right with the world.
I figure that a canola stalk must have pulled the connector or interfered with one of the height sensors right at the wrong moment.
At least these errors don't freak me anymore.Have a nice day!
