COLOURS
Good morning all,
looking at a 05 D3 in perth what do you think about the colour "Maya" is it popular? would it be a difficult colour to resell in the future?
your thoughts appreciated!

Maya Gold would appear to be the 'least favourite' colour for a D3 - even more than the reds (sorry simkna! )Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
I've also heard the same at the time of buying mine.
Gold is unpopular and could detract on resale.

Not my first choice, or second, or... my dealer admitted that Maya Gold has not proved popular and that it won't help resale values.
But if the price is right and the car meets your needs in all other respects, who cares what others think? It is your choice after all. <g>

Maya Gold may not be the most popular but it does look great and tends to sparkle in the sun. Must be the brighter sun, clearer air we have in this part of the world
Also masks the dust and mud, so you may not have to wash it so often.
Resale value, why think of resale now, you won't want to sell your Disco 3 for a very long time.

Re colours
Thanks all,
Very wise and informative comments (as always Im sure)! Resale is something I now consider highly as we never know what the future holds. I have just sold a boat that I had on the market for nearly 2 years! When I bought it she looked great (I thought) seems not many others did!

Kenso, I found myself in the same dilema. For me it meant getting a new D3 SE TDVS off the floor at $$$$ off list price or waiting for 4 to 6 months to get an S in the colour I would have preferred at the same price. Spent a few sleepless nights after I agrred to take the 'Maya Gold' but I certainly do not regret that decision now. Its a colour that seems to grow on you and does not show the dirt like some of the other colours. There is another Maya Gold Disco 3 in town which has a colour coded ARB bar which I dont think goes too well as its just emphasises the gold too much. I ended up getting my ARB bar done in a gunmetal grey 2 pac which tends to difuse the gold a bit. I have also gone down the route of the 17"Performance rims and STT tyres and these seem to offset the gold a bit to.
At the end of the day I would recommend a D3 in any colour over not having one.
Hope this helps.
Barry.

Paul and Barry - I can't agree more with Barry's closing statement "At the end of the day I would recommend a D3 in any colour over not having one."
Barry, some photos of the 2 pack bar would be appreciated to show the contrast with Maya Gold.

Leigh, finally got around to putting the photos in the gallery. Have not worked out how to put them in a psot yet, so if you go to my gallery you can pick them up from there.

Yes Barry, it looks good - contrasts nicely. Also like those Performance wheels, to save me searching the 'Net, what width are they please?

Leigh they are 17x8 with Cooper STT 245/70R17 tyres. Bit noisey but heaps of traction. I am only going to run them for 4Wd trips and keep the originals for raod work. Doesn't take that long to change over.
The cooper/bb6 combination is really good off road. When I went down some really soft sand (at 16psi) it was like being on bitumen!
I think that Maya Gold looks the goods.
Resale value was a sort of catch22 for me. If I get too much when i go to sell it I have to pay more tax as I'm depreciating the vehicle for work. Now its a moot point, because i intend hanging onto my D3 for a long time.Have a nice day!

I actually chose Maya Gold in preference. After my last silver TD5 I was ready for a change and I was dissapointed that the silver wasn't as good as the marketing pics. The unexpected part was how good it looks in the field and the number of people who have come up too me and commented on how good it looks. The one colour I don't like is white - looks like a lego brick. Even then, better a D3 then everything else.
If I can figure out how, I'l some post some pics.Disco 2 TD5 "Good"
Disco 3 TDV6 "Better"
Disco 4 HSE SDV6 "Best"
The older I get, the better I was.
