You'd recommend mud flaps then? Just bought a D4 and hope to keep it a long time, and recommendations please? Wax oil etc??
Thanks
Ian.

Folks,
Many thanks for all the messages. It was a bit of a shock to come out to especially as I heard nothing nor did the alarm go off! I have read up on this and see that it's maybe because, out of habit, I press the lock button a couple of times just to make sure it's locked. It would appear that the second push may deactivate some of the sensors?
Oldsailor,
Actually my area is superb. It really isn't bad for issues with local residents, more the ones passing through if you catch my drift.
Well, I got up this morning after a reasonable light night so decided to make an attempt at lightening my mood by fitting the wheels and side steps.
Wheels went on easily. Gave things a wee clean behind them too when they were off;
And the back
With that task out of the way I took on the sidesteps. Having read of so many trim failures I decided to use some corrosion inhibitor on the inside of the trim and on the rivet heads to see if it'll help the trim issues. See this thread in 3 years for results!!!
Job took about two and a half hours in total which included two cups of tea and 10min hand warming sessions. It's about 1 degree in Aberdeen today and the snow showers later were...erm...refreshing.
Anyway, the results;
So, overall i'm delighted with the look of the car and how well everything went on. I used a dremel for the cutting of the plastic sill covers which made it a quick process.
ian3321,
Yes, the mudflaps make a huge difference to the amount of road grime thrown up. I'll be fitting mine the moment they arrive. I must admit i've not really thought to underseal the Disco. I have done my father's Aston though and will be doing my 911 this summer.
Oh, and word from Auto Windscreens is that there is a rear screen enroute to me from Birmingham which should be fitted on Tues 4th. If they manage this then they'll be added to my Will!!!
If the window goes in in time then it'll still be in for tints on Thurs.
Cheers
James

Now looking very good with the new wheels and steps...
Pain in the posterior about the rear window... good to know that nothing else was taken or damaged and as suggested elsewhere, may have been idiots with stone filled snowballs.
Had a couple of kids the other day - stood in a pub car park as I turned the corner and they had that 'look' in their eye... anyway, the snowballs were thrown and the Disco is kinda hard to miss...
What they hadn't reckoned on was the fact that I was anticipating this, followed by the very tight turning circle and the awesome power delivery... nano-seconds passed and I hauled up next to them to deliver the lecture about 'how would they feel if a driver swerved away from them and ran up onto the pavement, knocking someone down in the process... all of which would be down to their stupidity...'
Made me feel better...
Hope you get the rear window sorted as quickly as promised!D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

Morning all!
Happy New Year!
Well the car isn't quite fixed as yet but should be by tomorrow morning.
The first glass that arrived never had radio terminals fitted so was no use.
The second glass that arrived this morning did have terminals but one was badly damaged and would need glued back on and i'd have to accept that they couldn't guarantee full radio functionality. I elected to wait another day...
So, fingers still crossed that I can make the tinting appointment tomorrow. Car should be ready by 0900hrs.
Cheers

Well AutoWindscreens won’t be getting anywhere near my Will!!
I got the car back this morning but sadly they have been less than careful in clearing up the glass.
There are wee scratches everywhere and there is still glass everywhere. Thankfully they have accepted full liability for the damage and I’m to get some quotes for the repair. It’ll need the bumper sprayed, the entire boot and the numberplate light cover. In addition it’ll need the plastic scratch guard replaced too as it’s also scored. It would appear that they were significantly less diligent with the clear-up of the glass than I was so have ‘brushed’ it all off using a stiff bristled brush. I will leave your imaginations to run wild with the images of thousands of small surface scratches caused by the brush and glass.
So, it would be fair to say i’m not just chuffed. Managed to push the tinting back till tomorrow so that I could clean up the glass to avoid any further significant damage. What a pain!!!59 D4 3.0 TDV6 HSE - Stornoway Grey - New addition!
